Hello all,
I have recently developed a problem with my Elddis CV20 van which i will describe below.
Upon hooking it up, with nothing switched on in the van, to my EHU at home after about 15 seconds it trips the RCD in either the Van or house or both.
Further tests show the space heater circuit is the problem which i have isolated which allows use of all other electrical circuits with no further tripping.
The space heater works perfect on gas and no faults are showing at the dual control unit.
I assume this is an earth problem and wonder if anyone else has experienced this type of problem
Look forward to any advice or experience you ay have had

It sounds like an earth fault which is a short circuit from the live or neutral to earth. This could be in the 230volt supply to the heater or within it most likely in the element.

The leakage current may be very small as it trips if it exceeds 30 milliamps within 30 milliseconds. That's 30 thousandths of an amp.

Thanks for the reply Navver.
I agree with your diagnosis as I have a rising resistance between live and earth on the space heater 240v cable .Thought it might be a fused element or water in the unit as it is under slung on the van, possibly getting in through the exhaust flue. As it's working fine on gas have ruled out control PCB. Unfortunately access to the unit appears to be from under the van to check cable, earth and element. Perhaps a job for better weather.
Thanks

Tripping suggested element gone to earth.
