I’ve not long since got a VW T6 Transporter conversion, instead of car/caravan, multiple tents, Pennine Fiesta,…..
It’s a very different experience, I’ve found on its two outings so far. Also using it as main and only vehicle. Anyway, I thought I’d start a blog to record my experiences, and as a depository for advice I’ve given on campsites (mostly in France). Entitled Willma’s Travels, it can be found here - weblink

Highlands of Scotland taking a casual six days of camping sites to Portsmouth ferry to Bilbao. A week in Aragon to take some spring sun before a slow seven week tour taking in Cevennes, Dordogne and onto Brittany for a crossing to Ireland for the WAW. No fixed agenda though a few places to take the slow road. We have a VW California

Morepints, we changed from tent to VW 'van many years ago. We had used plastic crates for packing the car for tent use, so used the same system for the 'van. We shuffled all our tubs/crates around so they took up the greatest amount of space, mainly under the bed, and it worked perfectly for us. Then 2 years ago we changed our 'van for a completely different layout, so had to rethink the whole thing. We still use tubs, but they have to be smaller now as the spaces are more confined.

And the other item we discovered are packing cubes. If you've not had these, they are nylon zipper bags, but flat cube shaped. We did buy some from IKEA but I also copied the design and made some myself. They have transformed our packing, particularly OH's, who kept his clothing in a muddly mess.

TartanBilly, sounds like an epic adventure; just the sort of thing Cali’s are built for! Have a great time, maybe see you on the road.

Franbee, I know what you mean about the camping boxes. I have a small shed full, but they don’t seem to ‘work’ with my layout. Underbed is relatively shallow, and the bed quite far back, leaving a large living area in the day. The IKEA cube idea is brilliant - I have some underbed ones already that I hadn’t thought of trying, and should fit in the large ‘wardrobe’. Thank you!

Morepints, get that tape measure out and measure your spaces. Sort through your boxes and see if you can find ones that fit the spaces, maybe more than one per space. Use height as well. If you really don't have any boxes, take yourself to B&M with the dimensions, they have a huge selection at modest prices. Look in all the sections, bathroom, kitchen, office etc. Maybe even a cat litter tray....All these are used like drawers, you can pull them out for access to the contents.

Then, when you have the boxes in place, look at your 'stuff' and reorganise it to fit the boxes. Some 'stuff' you don't need often, if at all, can be stuffed away at the back. Other things you use all the time need to be handy.

Another tip is for anything 'puffy', sleeping bags, gilets etc. As you know, they expand to fit the space. Either use straps to contain them when not in use, or roll and stuff them into the smallest bag you can find to fit. Again, I made ours, but with a bit of searching round cheap shops you should find something suitable.
