I recently fitted a simple Whale submersible pump to my campervan. Even though it is the most basic model they make I find the flow rate is still a bit too high. The pump leads straight to a single tap via 1 metre of pipe.

Does anyone know if there is a good way to reduce the water flow? I was wondering whether a device that lowers the voltage to the pump might help but I'm not sure if that's feasible?

Could you not simply not turn the tap on so much? Better to have a lot of pressure than too little I would have thought.

Ideally, yes, however this tap doesn't work like that. It is either on or off, hence my reason for wanting to reduce the pressure a little. This is the third tap I've had in the four years since I built the van. The first was broken by my wife, the new one fell apart by itself and this one works great but has no adjustment. I can't bear to replace it yet again :)

Vans nowadays have a pressure switch instead of microswitches and also incorporate a surge damper.

The pressure switch switches the pump on and off when the pressure drops as a tap is opened.

The surge damper is a piston in a tube with a spring. The pump fills the tube against the pressure of the spring. When it reaches the end of its travel the pump switches off and the water flow is supported by the spring.

This system allows a very low flow rate at the tap.
