Hi All,
Due to illness our van has not been used for some time. It is a 2013 Elddis Majestic 155.
We were due to go away yesterday but a few days ago I plugged in the EHU and could immediately smell burning.
The leisure battery charging cable was on fire and the inline fuse holder was totally melted.
Now the wiring diagram and fusebox diagram in the manual bears no resemblance to what is actually in the van.
I wonder could anyone with a similar outfit check what ampage fuse is in the inline fuse to the leisure battery.
Thanking you in anticipation.
I don't know your particular vehicle, but I tend to think that most leisure vehicle batteries would be protected by a 30amp fuse. However, it sounds like you have a serious fault there and unless you are very familiar with electrics I would suggest you get it checked out by someone who is. It is quite likely that unless you have had the van from new, someone has in the past made modifications to the circuitry, and they may not have been particularly competent. I am saying that as you say that it differs from what is in the manual.
Hi Colin,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I can tell you the problem has been sorted.
It was down to my leisure battery being faulty and the charger just kept trying to charge it hence the overheating.
A local campervan builder kindly gave it the once over this morning and a new battery everything is hunky Dory. For future reference my leisure battery had dropped virtually overnight to 4V causing the problem..
Thanks again.
