Peugeot boxer elddis motorhome 1998. carver gas room heater 3600 . I have got a red light on
the control switch. press the control down and the heater fires up but when I stop pressing down on the control switch to turn it to the heat setting the flame goes out.

is the gas supply tap turned on? have you got a good flow of gas? bled the air out, is their gas in your bottle?

Tap turned on, not sure how much gas is in the bottle
But oven fires up ok . Have not bled the pipe to the heater,,will give that a go.

only other thing for now is how long are you holding the knob down for? ive known ours to take around 30 seconds or so before the thermo coupling has got hot enough to allow the gas to flow

Check outside at the vent when you’ve tried lighting it: we smelt gas outside & our external metal part was badly corroded. That was a 1993 MH, Carver gas fire.

I have been holding the knob down for 30 seconds and tried for 1 minute but still get the same issue.
The external metal part is corroded.

I'd suggest looking for a universal thermocouple. your local Plumbers Merchant will stock them. For example https://www.gasproducts.co.uk/universal-standard-gas-thermocouple-900mm.html?currency=GBP

If changing the thermocouple doesn’t work, as suggested, the corrosion may be the problem (as it was for us). (Unless it’s the same thing: which is why we went to a gas engineer…)
