Hello im new to these forums but im needing some help as my speedometer has stopped working in my 2002 peugeot boxer vista autocruise ,ie no movement on speedo needle moving to tell me my speed i took it to my local peugeot showroom/garage and they have informed me after charging me a£180 diagnostic check what i already told them that my speedometer has stopped working and they cannot get any replacement speedo parts as they have have stopped making the parts they are obsolete ???can any one help as to were i can get a replacement?they said the same 6 months ago when my coolant sensor failed and again peugot charged me £180 to diagnose my problem but then told me they couldnt get the coolant sensor for my 2002 peugeot boxer vista autocruise 19 deisel as they have stopped making them obsolete and other infereour copies dont work ,i had to get a coolant sensor fitted my self and use a gauge to read the temp via a sensor connected directly via my coolant pipe .my m o t is due in a few weeks and im worried it wont pass due to no speedo and milage movement can any body please help as im stumped and any help would be greatly appreciated thank you?

if i was you i would be going to an independant garage, and not the dealer! as for getting the parts needed, well what about putting a secondhand speedo on it? dealers are all well and good when its a brand new vehicle but they simply have to get a part off the shelf and fit it, no way would i have paid them £180 for what they have done, anyone half decent could have told you what was wrong in under 5 mins.

Go to an independent garage & do some searching. The Speedo cable went on our old VW T4 (I think it was 25 years old at the time), I found somewhere doing copy parts (Europe or Yorkshire, can’t remember but not China) & my independent engineer fitted it. It was slightly different: the original was one cable, the replacement came in 2 parts- or was it the other way round? I only paid the indy garage for labour which was much less than a VW garage.

Once vehicles are out of current production main dealers are unhelpful. Possibly get the parts from a breaker often find parts on EBay. But first of all you need to establish what has actually failed . Could be the gear drive for speedo on the gearbox. Or could be the cable. Or the speedo head. If the speedo head be careful when buying used as some are advertised from Other countries are in KMH and not MPH.

Thanks very much i usually wouldnt tpuch the main dealers but for instance i got several different coolant sensors from eutoparts and then ebay and got my local garages to fit but found they didnt work etc and in the end went to peugoet so they would fix it and thats when they said they couldnt get the part etc and also i would like to mention i had a gear box and clutch fitted 3 mnths ago for 3 and a half k so thought i was done with silly fails but here we go again thank you all for the advice much appreciated il have to try scrap yards only trouble there is any motor homes that get scrapped tend to get picked up and rebuilt etc but if any one knows were
i can get good second hand original peugoet boxer 2002 vista autocruise parts i would be most grateful as im struggling in liverpool cheers and thanks again all who have commented

But it's not a scrap motorhome you're looking for, it's a Peugeot with the same engine.

you dont need a part for a motorhome, you need the part for a peugeot boxer! plenty of them about in a scrap yard

Hello thanks again for taking the time to reply ive just got my peugeot vista back from peugeot garage they say the cable from the back of my speedo in cab to the gear box is ok but they couldnt check the part that screws into the gear box as the mechanic said the screw felt that if he tried to loosen it wasnt budging and was worried about snapping it as they couldnt get the part to replace it and advised i go to a "specialist"garage and see if they can get the part or they said if i got the part they would fit it but they couldnt get the part themselves ?basically passing the buck to me but im not a mechanic and i dont no what part will fit any suggestions would really help as im at a loss as ive just been to a garage and explained the issue and they are also saying if i get the part then they would fit it?

In the gearbox there are small plastic gear on the output shaft that drive the cable. On all makes of vehicles they do wear out. Hence nowadays most speedos are electrically operated. Check this for the year.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166664238127?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&ca........
