I was thinking of getting a small caravan but have changed my mind and I am now looking at VW transporters. Has anyone on here had any dealings with Cambridge Campers or Incline Campervans ? Both of which I like the look of but know nothing about.

Which conversions should I avoid if any?

Thanks for any help.

We hired a VW off Cambridge Campervans a few years ago. They were very helpful & a good conversion

I think that would be a good idea, renting one to see how I get on. Thanks 🙏

I think there must be dozens of firms converting VWs and other base vehicles, judging by any “leisure” show I’ve been to. That means dozens of variations of layout, including whether the roof hinges from the front end or rear end. (Maybe visit a dealer or look online to see what “off the shelf” layouts are available, for comparison.) Better choose a business closer to home rather than 100s of miles away, in case work needs to be done under the warranty. I assume the ones you mention aren’t far away.
Hiring is very sensible indeed, maybe wait until after the school holidays as it’ll be expensive just now. The decision about whether or not you want a toilet will make a big difference: you’d find out during the hire.
I hope you find one that suits, especially if you’re using it as the only vehicle too.

I would advise finding a converter that can tailor their conversions to suit the buyer's needs and wants, rather than offerings a bog standard package without the possibility of customisation.

Personally, I would opt for a space for a portable toilet, external shower (for humans as well as mucky pups), a retractable awning, and the possibility to add a drive-away awning to increase the living space.

Thanks for the advice….which I must confess I haven’t really heeded, sorry. But, the good news is I found a 69 plate VW T6 I DSG factory converted (from new) van locally and completely fell in love with it. Only downside is the lack of a pop top, but I may find that that isn’t a huge problem; maybe even an advantage ( no leaks, no noise, no damp) and it already has solar and a roof rack. Time will tell though. There will only be me and my dog and I’m sure we will manage fine.
