About a year ago when I started to take my thermo-electric coolbox with me to keep the drinks cool and to minimise the risk of the more delicate vegetables like salad leaves and cucumber from being frozen in my fridge.

I thought the double mains socket near the cab of my van had broken when I could not get the coolbox to work when it was plugged in. So I hooked it up via one of the 12V sockets in the van instead while the van was on the move.

It only dawned on me last month that mains sockets in the van would only work when the van is hooked up to EHU, DOH!!!

What for?

I needed the coolbox to run when I was on the road, and the 240V mains socket would not work without hooking up to EHU.

I already carry a 5m, 10m and 25m EHU cables.

I felt really daft when I discovered the sockets still worked, then did my root cause analysis and discovered I tried to plug it into the mains socket immediately after arriving on a site without hooking up to EHU in the past!!!

Even worse - I nearly drained the van's battery by hooking up the coolbox to one of the 12V sockets in the cab overnight, only just once though!

Simple enough, plug in your extra long lead at home then drive off. Just like that electric car I designed, but not yet in production. It is only limited on distance you can drive, by the length of lead. Sadly, no one has yet produced a long enough cable.🤔

Use an elastic EHU cable, plug in and drive in the opposite direction. You'll soon be flying to your destination, but you might come home sooner than you want to.
