Incidentally we were ejected from the site on New Years Eve with no notice due to risk of flooding. We lost £200 for our gala dinner at a local hotel and drove home to Liverpool again in a raging gale. That’ll teach us!!!!!!

Happy New Year to you too. What a shame about the weather and having to be evacuated and not being able to have the dinner.
We were booked at Keswick at the start of December, just after Storm Darragh. When I tried to contact the site there was no reply, and being a Saturday (we had booked from the following Monday) the main booking centre was closed too. So I thought I'd contact Derwentwater C&CC site, being nextdoor I figured that they'd know something. Turned out to be a good idea: the male warden I spoke to was extremely helpful, told me the site had had to be evacuated and of course he didn't know when it would open again. But he said that he had 1 pitch free for the dates we'd booked at Keswick, if I wanted to book that instead. So I did, he tried to refund the deposit we paid for Keswick, but wasn't able to do that. He said that I should contact Head Office on the Monday and they'd sort that out. Which they did, with no fuss whatsoever. So we were lucky.
Actually, by the time we arrived on Monday, Keswick site had opened that day; we had a walk up to it and noticed that there was a sign by the office warning people that the site is subject to evacuation at short notice. I believe that if that looks likely, you are not able to be more than an hour away from the site; which makes sense.
I agree with FionaW about awnings though, we never put the awning out if it's windy, or is forecast to become windy. I've seen more than 1 awning being ripped away and damaged beyond repair in such circumstances.
