We have had caravans for over 50 years and have at times looked at a Motorhomes. Cost of buying has never been a problem as we could afford to pay cash for a brand new one. But each time after sitting at home going the pro’s and con’s having always finished up with buying another caravan. When away we have use of the car to get to places where we could not with a Motorhome. I cannot see the point of lugging a small car behind a Motorhome when we can travel about in the comfort of a larger car of which we now carry 2 Mobility Scooters. Also we are not restricted with parking on normal size parking bays, A Motorhome taking 2 bays costs 2 parking tickets unless you want a parking fine. Our neighbours when retired bought a Motorhome, the first time they had camped of any type. Asked us for a list of campsites we have used over the years and places visited. Each time they come home said there had been problems when leaving the sites getting access and parking at places. At the end of the day they mainly finished up going to one UK site and parking up by a small beach they found to walk the dog. They have now sold the Motorhome and just have a car and very little time going on holiday.

Our camper van experience first started with a 17 year old VW T2, it took us on several European tours. (third party insurance & no recovery) I did take lots of spares. The clutch cable snapped in Sienna was the only breakdown.
We now have a 15 year old German Fiat Ducato PVC van we have now had it 8 years, we bought it locally on the day I retired. Apart from holidays it's used every week for hiking & cycling days out and also bird hide. There is nothing better after a day out than to return to your van put the heater on make and eat a meal in nice surroundings.
We have recently done two 7 week trips to Spain & Portugal and a 4 week trip to the Loire. Yes we do use Aires in Europe and occasionally free camp in the UK. We also use CL sites in UK as Caravan & Motorhome club members.
We did have a caravan for 18 months when our children were young, but it was stolen and it put us off caravaning.

Totally agree with you,Campervan is more practical than motorhomes. Two neighbours down the road from us have them and make regular use as no problems getting about same as they could in cars, and except for parking with height barriers, no problems getting about to park on standard car spaces,

Might be wise to hire a MH for a week or two and see how you get on.

We've never wanted one and always had a caravan instead. Much cheaper and left the car free for day trips locally. We normally would go away a week at a time and go for local days out in the area.

We've never wanted one either. It would need to be quite large to compare with a caravan, and cost£****". We have a car park which is large enough for our caravan. We would certainly not want to have to tow a car behind a motorhome, which would be the only feasible way to go.

There are many benefits of owning both caravans and camper van / motorhomes we have owned both. Our 6m PVC suits us well, as we use ours all year round on day trips and trips further afield.
At 2.3m height barriers can be a problem, as for parking we can usually overhang in most supermarket car parks, it only becomes an issue when we have our towbar mounted cycle rack on.
Saturday we were out for the day on the Kerry ridgeway, had a great walk and enjoyed a meal in the van watching the sunset.
Whatever you own be it a caravan or a camper / motorhome, use it!! As you see many parked on drives and rarely used.
