As we live in a dodgy area, our caravan insurance is actually quite a bit cheaper for us storing our caravan in a gold CASSOA storage site compared to storing at home.
We are allowed to bring our caravan home for a single night to either get loaded up to go on holiday or unload afterwards, but we never bother, we just pile everything into the car and go down to the storage site the day before to load the caravan before going away.
Each insurer will have their own rules so read the small print carefully!

Aye, we have several within 10 miles but never bothered with our current van as relatively low value. We have opted for top of range tracker & immobiliser plus several other physical & visible security measures. Not sure I'd like to loose the convenience of just jumping in the van at short notice as we do now.

Caravan in my case, not a MH. I get a 8% discount on my insurance by storing in a secure storage yard (both CAMC), which is about a 10% contribution to the not inconsiderable storage costs! A lot of insurers give a discount for secure storage at a RECOGNISED secure facility, not any old yard will meet with their approval, in fact they may refuse to even cover at some storage yards (friends had that!) even though actually secure! CASSOA and/or the Club owned yards seem the favourite choices for a discount.
An often overlooked benefit of NOT storing at home is that you don't advertise quite so blatantly that your house is empty when your normally there caravan/MH is away for any length of time - so not a holiday for you and an invite for burglars!
With my insurance, you'd have to check others are the same, you can store the van at home for a few days with the insurers blessing, so good for prepping for a trip, or cleaning etc.
Various after market security locks, alarms and trackers can also bring insurance discounts, if not actually also insisted upon by insurers! They generally have to be one of the approved types rated for their security by 'Sold Secure', 'Thatcham' etc.
It's not too difficult to knock up quite a hefty discount on insurance by improving overall base vehicle security.
It depends on where in the country you are to a significant degree, but storage yards can be pretty expensive, and vacant spaces hard to find, around my way, there are waiting lists on many of the decent yards, or just plain refusals as 'full'!
Check the T&Cs CAREFULLY for any yard you may be interested in, some are VERY user UNFRIENDLY, with very limited access, prior notification of a visit to your vehicle, no direct access - staff will bring your vehicle to you at the exit etc. Some yards insist on having a set of keys left with them, others don't want your keys. Some yards have 'service bays' with water and EHU supplies, so you can clean and service your vehicle, and have professional annual servicing carried out, whilst other yards are strictly storage only and no 'work' to be carried out on site. Beware of yards/storage bays with overhanging trees, your vehicle will get filthy, yards on farms often have rodent problems, and rodents getting in caravans/MHs can be SERIOUSLY bad news with big bills to fix chewing damage! Ground control/maintenance is not all it could be on some sites - tall weeds, uncut grass, muddy pot holes etc.
Really good yards are out there, my van is on one, but you need to check carefully before signing up. I've cost free access to a service bay (needs a time slot booking in advance for certainty of access, but may be free at time of visit and can be booked on the spot). Daylight hours unsupervised access to my van 365 days with no notice required, electronic tag to get through security barriers, no keys lodged with the site.

Our caravan is in storage. We have just renewed our insurance and when I asked about bringing the caravan home before a trip to clean and put our bits and pieces in I was told two days before a trip and two after.
How on earth would they prove it had been there longer than two days before a trip, if for example it was stolen.

With my storage yard, you have to log in and out on every visit (DIY paper and pen register), stating purpose of visit - taking van out, bringing van back, or just visiting in situ. And with it's electronic tag operated security barriers (in AND out) there'll be an electronic record too, plus your movements are on CCTV. As the yard is a CAMC site, and my insurance is with them too, they could to some extent tie my movements and timings down and compare with my claims! Camp site booking would confirm timings in relation to storage site movements.
I suppose if your insurer doubted your word, and couldn't directly access the storage site movements, they may ask you to verify them with proof from your storage site operator, and show evidence of your camp site booking, comparing timings to ensure you were within the T&Cs.
In this day and age, our movements and activities are almost continuously monitored and recorded by 'technology', it's difficult to deceive without huge risk of being caught out! With an insurance claim, the onus is heavily on you to prove your version is true and accurate! It's actually quite easy for an insurer not so much to prove you're lying, but to demand you demonstrate your claim is truthful and accurate, and process the claim on that basis!
Cheating an insurance company is risky, if caught they can pursue you for fraud, and you'll end up on a centralised blacklist where you are likely to be refused any kind of future insurance cover!
