Hi Dave,
Just remember we were all novices once and the camping/caravan/motorhome fraternity are always more than willing to help and offer good suggestions if asked.
Be fully equipped with gas, especially if you are travelling outside Scotland or the UK in general. Europe's electricity amperage is still medieval with about 3 amps of power as standard. Everyone overpacks clothes so pack what you think, halve it and halve it again. Open slather on everything else though. We travel with things like nail clippers, arthritis cream, tinned food, pasta, etc. for emergencies, books, emroidery, cards and things to do if holed up in bad weather if you can't get TV reception. Camping sites are fairly few and far between so wild camping is the go but one exception is a magical place called North Ledaig just north of Oban. It is huge but busy so it may be worthwhile to book ahead. Kinlochbervie was our favourite alltime spot in the world 40 years ago but even though it's still lovely and I would think great for walking, the cold storage facilities now in the harbour have ruined our memories of the place a bit. But Scotland is still the best country (outside Australia that is!) Have fun and expect a few hiccups without losing your sense of humour. Fran & Martin
