Hi all,
I am trying to repair the wings (corrosion) on my CI motorhome. It required a plate to be welded on, where there was a radio aerial fitted. A previous owner had mounted the aerial on a stainless plate, that was screwed onto the wing. The rust had spread around that area. It was so bad, I hacksawed a large ( 12in x 4in) hole in the wing (the reason for the welding).

To cut a long story short, most of the top part needed attention. It is now filled sanded and primed.

The colour-code for the finish is JU. I bought one can of JU**** beige from Halfords. It is the wrong shade, far too dark, I think it was called Tucsony Beige?

The question I want to ask is: does anyone know what the original beige was called, or the correct code?

It may be the correct shade but yours may have faded, take it to a real motorfactors who has a paint mixing facility and they will mix you some.

Thankyou for rapid reply. Someone walking by suggested that. I appreciate that the colour has faded, but the interior of the cab seems fairly bright and glossy, it is a very much lighter shade than what I have sprayed on the wing. The (Ford) chassis, plate is inside the cab on the nearside, just says `paint JU`, the log book says beige.

Take it to the motorfactors or a small paint shop whom mix their own they will advise. Slightly off subject we needed to match some emulsion up at home, took a piece down to the local decorators merchant he had a camera looking device he placed over our sample and it matched the paint perfectly.

OK, I have solved the problem. It appears that the Ford beige (JU) is right. Peeling part of the `top coat` off, reveals the original shade, I thought that was undercoat. CI, the coach-builders, then sprayed their beige over the top. Speaking to a former `coach-builder`, he seems to think that this is the normal procedure.

Which doesn`t help my problem at all. Thinking of spraying the whole cab white...Ford standard Diamond white. My spraying talents are abominable.

Hi Bill & Pete,

Well Bill, the pictures look very similar to mine, except the cab colour!. Maybe mine will look similar soon. Due to constant vandalism, I am going to replace the original wing-mirrors, the glass is now obsolete (so I was informed by local Ford outlet), and Halfords were not much help either. The glass used to be £9.99 each, needed six replacements recently (ouch). Visited local breaker, picked up a pair of later Ford wing mirrors and stems for £15.
