we have a carbon monoxide detector got from maplins.

you have to put them low down or they are pointless though, my sister recently got a caravan which she proudly showed us and the previous owners had installed the carbon monoxide detector next to the smoke alarm on the ceiling....... it is now just above floor level

Hi - Not so sure about installing them low down. Mine are at eye level, and the installation instructions say the optimum is 1.5 metres from the floor. I believe that  CO has nearly the same density as air, so it probably doesn't make much difference.
