Thanks to all who kindly replied to my question regarding SOG toilets, sorry but cant remember the couple who gave me the VANGEAR web site but l took your advise and used them. I fitted it the next day and now it has been tried and tested and l must say that i was very impressed. If anybody wants any info please let me know and i will go into detail.
Iwill try to explain how it works without going into to much detail.
I your cassette toilet you put chemicals to make it smell a bit sweeter and to break down the contents because with it getting no oxygen its the only way that it can break down but with the addition of a SOG conversion (meaning a kit which is fitted to your cassette) there is no need for any more chemicals because as you open the slide to use the cassette a small fan starts up and sends the smell outside via a small vent fitted to your cassette door even as you are useing the loo so there is no need for any more chemicals easy as that. Confused
In the long run doesn't the saving you make on all the chemicals pay for the conversion roadrunner? Also it means as you are not using chemicals you can then dispose of your waste in any public toilet. I am lead to believe this is the case and if so then it is a real help when touring around and wild camping - you need to dispose your waste somewhere and with chemicals it is very difficult unless you are on a campsite with facilities. Having a SOG conversion would make it far easier and more environmentally friendly too. We were talking to someone recently about converting over to SOG and apparantly in Germany and other countries chemicals are frowned upon and in some places even banned altogether and chemical free toilets are insisted upon. Don't know how true this is but I think chemical free toilets will be encouraged more and more in the future.
The price we were quoted at the Lincoln motorhome show for the SOG kit was approx £80. My hubby reckons he could fit it himself but I would be interested to hear how much you paid for yours Brian.

I paid £84.50 fron VANGEAR all inclusive and delivery took two days and yes your hubby could fit it himself it took me 55mins for the first one on mine and 35mins for the second one on my uncles it is easy.
A good explaination by the way from yourself and yes it is true about Germany and other countrys infact Burnstner are fitting as standard any Hymer are not far behind so go GREEN and fit a S.O.G
Yes Carol you are STILL showing your ignorance because of the charcoal filter there is NO smell outside and certainly none inside and be aware sites in Cornwall and Devon are allready refusing blue chemicals and green will be next thers nothing so sure as that.
We can always wear a peg on our noses ha ha. But I resalised immediately you were only jesting - I think Yobo was a little bit too quick to jump on you there Carol but I think once he realises he has taken your post all wrong he will probably apologise. I hope so - cos you are certainly never ignorant on this forum and it's fun to have a little giggle at such sensitive subjects as poo poo smells.

So in that case, will they have cctv fitted to the cdp on sites to check if anyone is using chemicals ? Or even worse use dna profiling to see who's waste is who's ?
Lol milemuncher! I have a SOG, wasn't really sure I wanted one but it came with van. For those of you with fascinated with poo facts a SOG toilet doesn't smell in the van, not sure about outside so I will go have a little sniff next time!! The waste does not break down as well as chemicals, so we still use a bit!! In fact it doesn't seem to break down at all, according to my Mum who kindly offered to empty it on our last camp!! (Hubby wasn;t there and my kids flatly refused, what's a girl to do!) Long live the green and blue bottles!
I wanted to buy one of these SOG Systems but vangear no longer sell them so i bought mine from Outdoor Bits http://www.outdoorbits.com will let you know when it turns up how easy it was to fit :)
Hello Steve, lately I have noticed that there are lots of vehicles with the vents in doors, they must be a popular option these days with everyone thinking more about the world.
