We have gone through the usual, tent, folding camper, trailer tent, folding caravan route and are now considering a small motorhome. There is a covenant on our house which means we are unable to park a caravan or commercial type vehicle on the drive. Small motorhomes  look pretty much like people carrier type vehicles. I've been reading elsewhere on this site that height barriers are a problem in cities. We were considering selling our car and using only the motorhome but if we were unable to use regular car parks with barriers it would be a real disincentive to buying a M/H. The lowest ones we have considered are Vw T5 types, Reimo Legacy, Devon Moonraker or Lifestyle St. Tropez all at 6ft 5". Does anyone own one of these vehicles?? and do you have problems with height barriers??

Any advice gratefully received.

With thanks in anticipation

Alex

Hi Alex,

Exactly the same position as yourself. We aren't allowed to park anything big on the driveway, so are considering the T5 as a 'car'. We're looking very closely at the Bilbo Celex ( http://www.bilbos.com/t5/t5_celex.cfm ). We've already been to have a look, and like the elevating roof because the ventilation is good. Also, the double bed is one of the widest. The quoted height of 1985mm is only with the optional lowered suspension which we are now seriously considering. Most height barriers seem to be 2.0m. Locally (because we'll be using it as our main transport) we've only found one multi storey car park (there are nearby alternatives) and a recycling amenity tip with barriers lower than this. I don't know yet if lowering the suspension is an option on any of the T5 alternatives.

We think we'll end up driving around with a tape measure on board just to make sure!

I shall be reading any replies on this forum with great interest.

Sue Lucas.

Hello Sue, Thanks for your reply. Yes we'ver looked at Bilbo's. Think they are really nice but don't like fact that it appears you cannot eat at the same table, unless both tables could be on the same side. We're going to the Motohome show at York to try and get to grips with it. I also await with interest.

Mine is a T4 and it is infuriating to find 2m height restrictions in many city car parks (I need 2.2m). In Chester the  Park and Ride car parks have a small area for overheight vehicles (they have 2m barriers). Surely others should follow as they must encourage tourists, and surely do not want large motorhomes negotiating narrow city centre streets lokking in vain for somewhere to park.
