We have recently purchased a 1976 MK1 Ford Transit Camper. Due to the mighty rust problem in the front floor pan / wheel arches we would welcome any advice on where to purchase a front floor pan, and roughly what the cost would be? Any advice would really help as we are complete novices!

Hi Becky, and welcome to the best club on the net for camping and all things relating to it.

I think tou may have problems, finding  floor pan sections for the front of the van, and the same with the wheel arches too. About the only items that are still available are the front door footwells/step boxes, and also the stiffeners that weld underneath the boxes.

The only other alternative is to buy a Mig welder, (they are quite easy to use) and source a supplier of 18 gauge steel sheet in your area. It should be reasonably thick as it carries weight. (Check the phone book for steel stockists, or also car panel suppliers. They can supply the steel sheet if asked)

I don't intend putting you off, but the work can be done, just takes time, that's all.

Good Luck,

Bill
