Hello

Just wanted to ask what people do about the automatic flushing toilets and the pink flush stuff.  My MH has automatic flush from the clean water and therefore I cannot add disinfectant I have been using a spray bottle and everyone that goes (No 1's only EVER permitted) then has to spray after the flush.  Does seem a faff though.  Any thoughts?

Hello again,  sounds like you have a similar toilet as us, ours is electric flush using water from the Aquaroll.  We use the blue Aquachem in the holding tank and do not usually have any problems with unpleasant smells, and we use ours for everything if required.

In hot weather you may find it better to use a bit more blue stuff and empty more frequently. We got a sample of the pink with the van, I use a little of it to rinse round the bowl as required, but it is not really a cleaner.  I just don't want to use anything too strong in case it damages the plastic or the seals, or even reacts with the blue.  Chemistry was never my best subject!!

We have recently gone over to using the sachets of blue powder rather than the liquid, very easy and lighter to carry, but more expensive.  When using the toilet we always open the hatch first so all deposits go straight into the holding tank, I find that helps to keep the bowl cleaner, and minimises smells.

If you are getting constant bad smells from the holding tank then it may be that it just needs a really good clean.  I believe you can get special tank cleaners, but there must be quite a few products that would do the job.  You must take care not to use anything that could damage the seals on the tank.  If you get any leaks the seals are fairly straightforward to replace.

Hope that helps

A sog is fitted to the toilet and it uses compressed air so does away with the need for chemicals and there is no odour .... "Air Rides" is the company we bought it from, they are at all the MH shows.   Ana x

Hi,

Ours also has flush water pumped straight from the main fresh water tank. I sometimes pour a bit of the pink stuff around the bowl to give it a protective coating but that's about it. The blade is always opened before use (splashback tends to be more of a problem when built up fluids above the blade drop in suddenly once opened) and the loo is used for number 1's and number 2's as we mostly wild camp, so site loos are often not an option.

Phil
