Hi

Has anyone got one of these - we have seen a B644 today which we really liked the layout of - the one with the end lounge so that you have 2 sitting areas. Can anyone tell me what the layout is for the B594, and also what does anyone think if they own either?

Hi, I had a B644. Mine was a 6 berth , end lounge made up permanently as a double (only 2 of us), I really liked it, 2.5tdi , 33mpg and that was loaded with gear. Personally it's down to taste but the 644 is the more popular reseller.
It's maybe better if you ask the questions, and if In can answer them I will. Try this link for layouts , also this company is good to deal with.

Thanks for the reply - we have seen a b644 1998 model with lots of extras, but just feeling nervous about all that money I guess!! We really like the end lounge rather than the fixed bed but they do seem quite rare. Deepcar have a 1997 one but it is LHD with 59000 miles on it - was yours LHD? Do you have any strong feelings about LHD motorhomes?

Hi Chris, mine came from Deepcar as well. Mine was LHD and came from the Blackforest area of Germany (dealer plate)I had a B584, RHD before 1998, but needed a 644 as we found the 584 a bit on the small side, yey it's hymers biggest seller, something like 86% of all sales. Mainly designed for couples. What I found about deepcar.
   I needed a water tap (faulty, 6 weeks after I bought it) in the washroom, I lifted the phone, they contacted Hymer and 10 days later I was signing for it at my front door. I fitted it myself. It will be easier for you if you live near the supplier.It's difficult to get a good supplier with customer service these days.
The 644 was longer obviously but handled even better. LHD unless you go to Europe regularly or long term( if only the 6 numbers .....) then it is an advantage. If however you are staying mainly in the UK then it's a slight disadvantage. If you really watch your mirrors before overtaking then it's OK, reversing etc doesn't matter which side you sit, remember LHD means gear changes with
the right hand.
I didn't find it a problem but to be honest I would prefer RHD.
Check before you buy if the mirrors can be adjusted for a view you are happy with. My B584 was RHD but that was the only difference , the a class body is identical as the LHD, door on european side, "drivers door " is going to be on passenger side with a RHD , unless things have changed. If it's any help to you . I was told Hymer built their best A class between 1988 and 1994. I've looked at the new stuff on offer and they are lighter made as are all manufacturers, but still a heck of a lot superior than our own manufacturers. Swift tried and failed to make an A Class , it was a total disaster, my mate had one, it spent more time back at swift than he had use of it. Kind of awkward when you don't live on the mainland. All I'll say is once you go german you will never go back. I know the money is nasty, I thought about it too, but in the end you get will enjoy the quality and won't regret it.
Hobby (german) also make good motorhomes. I'm trying to get info on a new Italian made one at the moment myself,supplied locally. I find I'm comparing everything with the Hymer. I regret selling it last year. Took a notion to buy a caravan, cheaper by far, big mistake, miss the freedom of the motorhome.
In conclusion LHD is a personal thing, some folk are bothered about it, some aren't, it's really how comfortable you feel behind the wheel. AS I said the mirrors were the only down side on my 98 584 as they didn't really adjust properly as they were designed for the LHD Driver. If you go LHD then the mirrors should be A1. Would you buy a Mercedes based one, fully loaded, Wellhouse Leisure

Think I've mentioned Deepcar before but will mention again, we had a similar experience as bent axle.  2 of our 4 bike rack fittings had seized up, saw dirk (think that's the owners name) at peterborough show, he took them with him and sent them back fully repaired! No problem, no charge.  Ours is a smaller coach built hymer (wanted bunks for 2 boys, a class don't have bunk layout) LHD and I love it.  Had our Swift Kontiki stolen last year, was gutted, thought I'd never love another one again, but been proved wrong!

Have you had any luck in getting the Hymer?

I have a 1996 B594 with a rather rare Hymer drop down bunk over the rear (corner) dinette making it a full 6 berth in a motorhome only 6 metres long. It will fit in most carparks where the back can over hang the verge or suchlike making it very pratical for going into towns. I would have prefered a B644 with the rear u-shaped seating but couldn't find a good one,The B594 came along and was in such good condition with low miles that we bought it on the spot and haven't looked back! The downside is the lack of storage space, though we do carry all the clobber for skiing (x 6!). There is plenty of cupboard space but not much room for the bulkier items. A top box has solved the space side of the problem, the weight problem has been solved with a GVW uprate to 3700kg from 3200kg, so we now have an extra 500kg payload- excellent for the homeward stockup on duty free!

I have only seen 1 other "3 wiper" B594 but several older brown and white ones, and I've never seen another Hymer of any type with the drop down bed.

I suppose to sum up, if I was offered a swap for a B644 with the right layout I would be very temped, but it would have to be a really nice one.

Hi,  The 644 appears not to be made anymore with a rear lounge,  I asked about one at the Excel Show on the Hymer stand and was told they only make the 644 with a fixed bed and garage now,  if you are interested in a LHD try the www.mobile.de web site it is a German site but you can select english at the bottom of the page then just enter the details you are looking for.  If you do think about importing as they are a lot cheaper in Germany,  i would suggest you look into the insurance problems of bringing back to the UK,  the German Transit Plates can be purchased with insurance but this is only basic third party no fire and theft,  so be careful on the return journey ? once you arrive on UK soil most insurance companies will cover you on the VIN number until you register it,   if you want any more info on importing i will let you know all that i found out,  albeit i lost my nerve over the insurance ?? 30k and only basic insurance ??? my nerves couldn't stand it

I also like the 644 with the rear lounge layout, we have even thought about how difficult it would be to convert the back bed to a U shaped lounge
We intend to go to Germany around May to try to buy a van, our first choice would be a Frankia but if we can get a Hymer in a layout we like at the right price that would do nicely.
I also have reservations about the insurance issue, I have thought about asking the dealer when I buy one if they would deliver it to the port. In another forum somebody who was self-importing reckoned that Caravanwise would insure him fully comprehensive from when he buys the van, I will be giving them a ring when I am ready to buy.
