''Each to their own I say and as long as we are all happy and satisfied with whatever we have chosen then that's all that matters. It should not be a question of which outfit is best but more a case of which outfits suits you and your lifestyle the best. Wouldn't do for us all to think exactly the same way would it?''

Here, here, couldnt agree more.

So lets not get into another of those which are best arguments on here - just enjoy whatever you have and let's all respect each others preferences.

As long as we all prefer motorhomes....

My kids love it, I love it and even hubby puts up with it!!! There is a great sense of adventure and I rarely do sites for more than 3 days, you never know what's around the corner.  I think it comes down to this, if you like to pitch for a while and explore area using site as a base, a caravan would seem better.  If you have itchy feet, like the challenge of using local transport (be it donkey cart, canoe or bus!) then perhaps a motorhome is the best option.  Bordercaz, I had a motorhome with no power steering and it was hard work but love the new one.  I also loved caravans as a child and, although i prefer my MH now would be just as at home in a caravan.

Sixwheels , now thats what I call a motorhome.
Is it hard on the diesel? Many time I've looked at similar just didn't take the plunge.

If we're talking about the Iveco 7.5 ton thingy, then no it's not mine, it belongs to a friend of mine who has his own business building horseboxes, motorhomes and van conversions. Has a garage in the back big enough for two full size motorcycles, it sleeps seven, has a 2500 watt generator, two T.V.'s, it's awesome. He's also just added a 4.5 metre wind-out awning.

I don't know what the fuel consumption is like but he uses it every weekend without fail, and doesn't just do short journeys.

Mine is the Hymer parked next to Loch Lomond.

Everyone wants something different from their "outfit" and rightly so. As long as you are happy with what-ever you have then thats great.

As far as we are concerned our Bay is spot on for us. We can pull up on a site, in a carpark, in a layby or anywhere we choose and be tucked up in bed (upstairs or down) with a hot drink in the time it takes to boil a kettle for two!!! Or sit out side with table and chairs and a can/bottle of something cool in an equally short time. If we think we are going to stay in an area more than 2 nights then we put the awning up. To us time is important, and we reckon we can put the awning up or down, in a fraction of the time it seems to take caravanners to "set" or "break" camp. Its a drive away awning, and it takes about the same  time time to unhitch it, drop the roof and drive off than it would to decide what to throw in a car and drive off. Likewise when we get back to the awning, it takes less than 2 mins to hitch on to it. There are only two of us so we dont have to carry all the stuff associated with kids. We dont need any more space than we have. With our van, the interior has evolved to suit us. Everything has its place, so we can easily up stumps and drive off. Its no bigger than a car so can be parked anywhere, even in the smallest of carparks.

I think you just have to look at what is important to you and make your choice on that. The main thing is to get max enjoyment from your investment!!!

"There are only two of us so we dont have to carry all the stuff associated with kids."

Ay, there's the rub. And after the kids have been in the van it takes a long time to pack away and tidy up, no matter how much I shout at them to tidy up as they go along.
