I would like to say a big thank you to all that have posted advice so far.I agree with comments about going in spring. That way I will not be thrown in at the deep end. I'm busy at the moment searching for a van. Have researched plenty on the net. Done a little surfing for Wild sites and costing in general. How far will the money go, is a big worry.Do I buy a cheap van and save the money for fuel, food etc. Is it best to buy a better van, more up to date, service history, less risk of problems. That may be the way to go because I can recoup some money through the sale of my vehicle if I decied to bail out. Will I be able to earn any money whilst on the road ?

So much to think about.I may just cheat those fellows with the white coats.

Ta for now

Steve,

Glad you've decided to wait until spring. You should get a good bargain in the winter months van-wise and gives you time to find one that really suits you. Have a look at ebay, not necessarily recommending buying one from there but you can see plenty of pics of motorhomes which will give you an idea of the layout you want. I would say get the best you can afford, a cheap van will cost you more in the long run, and you will never feel confident driving it if you have to keep repairing it on the road.

Just a thought about the money side of things - have you thought about perhaps being a site warden next year for a while?

When you get fixed up with a van how about joining us on one of the meets? there are plenty of single people who come for whatever reason, some with kids, some without, and the friendliest people in the world too! will also give you a chance to iron out any problems you may have with getting to grips with the whole camping thing amongst people who can help if you have a problem. Have a look at the meets list, plenty being planned for next year, and for the rest of this year too.

Debbym

There are loads of books in WH SMiths and the likes about working abroad in particular but I bet one of them at least will cover casual work in the UK.  There is always a demand for labour somewhere or another so I can't see finding a job too hard at any given point if you do need to generate money.
