There are 2 things to consider here - 1 is the actual cab and engine, so might be worth taking someone with you who knows about mechanics and 2 - the caravan bit on the back - check for damp if poss with a detector, or feel with your fingers around the windows, corners, bathroom, under the beds, etc for soft spongy walls. Try peeling back the rubber around the windows particularly near the sink for damp. Your nose is a good indicator if there is damp present.
Check everything is working ie water pump, electrics both off mains and battery. Check gas cooker and fire is working. Check blinds (if fitted) are all working. Check floor - if soft and spongy may need re-laminating, particularly around the entrance door and outside the bathroom door.
My advice to you if buying private is to make a check-list b4 you go of everything you can think of. Hope you get a good one and good luck with your search
