Hi, new to the scene but very impressed with what I<ve read and wonder if anybody has an answer to this.
We,ve bought a german left hand motorhome and the mot is due soon .Does the speedo HAVE to be in mph and if so does any body sell stick on decals that would just go over the existing figures.
HI Big Brian, How old is it? has it just been imported? has it had an MOT before, as far as I know the speedo has nothing to do with the MOT any way, 50KPH= 30MPH, Cheers for now Bob
The speedo has nothing to do with the mot. Has it been registered yet? The only time that you might get asked about a MPH speedo is when you get your English number plate. Some inspectors insist on a MPH speedo and others don't even look at it. Luck of the draw.
Thanks for all replies, yes it has had an english MOT but wondered if things have changed ,generally speaking I,m usually unlucky in such matters. Will see what happens in 7 weeks when MOT is due and will post results for any more "natterers " like me !
A mate of mine loves pajero's. He has had several now. When they are brought into the country they have a test before they are allowed to be registered on the road. It is more strict than an MOT. He bought one recently. It was advertised as 45,000 miles. The speedo was in mph. After a few days he noticed it was clocking up in kph . I am led to believe that it is not a problem to show KPH. I am only 95% sure though.
------------- Reality is an illusion created by lack of alcohol!!
I think you will find the speedo has to MPH this can be done with a sticker over the top, but the mileometer can read in KPH.This has always been the case on the imported bikes I have had.
there was talk of changing us UK to kph,but all went quiet.as said before it is possible it will have to be in MPH for the MOTprobably the cost of changing all the signs.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I don't think that it is part of the MOT you can read the FAQ for Vehicle Importing it doesn't actually say that you must have a MPH speedometer. On other sites when this topic has come up it seems that some MOT stations accept KPH others don't.
Hi I have a lefty as well and my speedo is in KPH, you probably could find speedo 'sticker' I know I can get one for the VW, but you will still clock up the mileage in KM's not miles. There is a convertor somewhere on tinternet. I have to admit that I have the conersions for speed written down and usually as I drive with the OH when I passed into a new speed limit I asked for the equivelent in KPH so I would'nt get into trouble - I don't think it will come second nature to me unless I don't drive my car.
Oh yes and no problem with the previous owners MOT so hoping that I won't have a problem either I don't really see why it should cause a problem as long as you stick to the correct limit. I.e no - I'm sorry I was speeding but I couldn't understand my speedo. LOL
There is no problem with speedometers reading in KPH for an MOT, if fact you don't need a speedo to pass the test and the new computerised system will not allow a fail on this and will override a mechanic who did try and fail it and issue a certificate.
You are right about the fog light it must be on the offside of the vehicle.
