We are planning a trip to Australia in (our) spring for 2/3 weeks. Visiting son who is out there for a year based in Sydney. Idea is to hire a MH.

Therefore, any one have contacts/suggestions about best place to hire from considering price and service?

Has anyone any tips on where to travel and what to see within the timescale?

An idea is to spend a week in Tasmania. Is this feasible and if so is it best to take MH on ferry or hire another there?

Any info or advice appreciated

Best wishes

Alan

Hello Alan,

You will love every min. out there, My Son had 12 months in Oz back in 2000 when his 12 months visa had experied  I went to have a holiday with him. He had backpacked from Sydney to Cains,

I visted for 3 weeks as a backpacker (over 40) we met in Sydney and stayed 3 days we used the hostels, Family rooms and I can reccomend to use these, and very reasonable in prices, Flew to Brisbane, o/nite stop and then over to Kepple Island, (paradise). back down again to Rockhampton, visited also Steve Irwin's crocodile park. then sadly after 3 weeks had to come home via Singapore for 5 days stop over stayed at the Rondezvouz Hotel (first class).

At that time booking with Dial a flight was the cheapest option they still run special offers with flights and stop overs.

Mel on uk campsites is from Oz why not pm her direct - she may be able to help with the hire on MH.

I am also available those weeks if you want a guide (I wish)???

Have a wonderful time,

Try and go for at least 3 weeks.  It's a huge country and you'll have to think about what you really want to see and if necessary take internal flights to save time.  We spent a week in Tasmania (hire car and tent in those days!)  It's an amazing place and you can just about 'do it' in a week.  Don't miss out Port Arthur and make sure you take the evening lamp lit ghost tour!

Sydney is a great city but you'll need to fly if you want to see the Barrier Reef / tropical areas.  Don't waste precious time driving huge distances on very long, straight and barren roads.  It's a 36 hour drive from Adelaide to Perth with not much to see on the way!

Do your homework - know what you want to see but don't plan to fit too much in - you need to give yourself time to enjoy the places that you do get to see.

Camped all over and don't remember a bad site anywhere.  It's a great country for camping but if you want a few nights somewhere try a backpackers.  Have fun x
