Good question, we got a caravan brand new for a bit less than that, Nice van but go fed up with going back and two to the storage. So then we went for a Campervan / Motorhome same again just a bit less than your £12,000. We wanted somthing that we could park on the drive and park in a standard parking place at Asda. So forget the Motor Home had to be a Campervan. Got one of them.
So in a good position to look at your question.
My view:-
It depends on how you want to use it and what you require from the unit.
So for the Caravan
Lots more for your money £12k would get you a brand new van or a good secondhand higher spec van.
Generally get more room, equipement for you money as your not buying a motor to drive it.
Comfortable for short or long stays
For the Campervan / Motorhome
Easy set up, Easy pack up
Only one insurance if you don't have a car
Very good for short breaks weekends away. Bigger modles can be as good even better than caravans for long stays
Can be used as main vehicle when not camping.
Can be used for days out
So what would I do? Don't ask me we are about to sell the Campervan and the Caravan. Thinking of getting a caravan with a fixed bed but only because we can't fit a Motorhome of the size we need up the drive.
