hi hope everyone is well !

as you know i am "fixing up" my camper van and i have discovered that my fridge is broken ,shock ,horror !!!

So ,does anyone out there know anyone that is selling a second hand fridge about 60-70 cm high that is 12v and gas ?

i would be very greatfull ,i also noticed that a few people was asking for help and while i was in a car parts shop i saw a haynes book on motorcaravans and its a very good book for the beginner like me .

Its not an ad ,im just trying to be helpfull to other "newbies",it covers quite a bit about gas safty and leisure battery setup.

also it gives you the rundown on the "use of gas" in ferries and so on ,which is a "no go" .

hope this helps people and i hope someone might be able to help me ,all i need to look for now is some kind of heating for it .

I have always found that the fridges in camper vans suck basically.  Always use one of those mini fridges - much better success at chillin' the wine!

sorted !!!!

just bought one from ebay ,gas and 240 v ???.

i thought they were either 3 way or 2 way as in gas,12v and 240 v or gas and 12 v.

i have not come across a gas 240v but anyhow i had it in the house testing it and all is fine with the electrics ,im quite sure the gas side of things will be ok .

i can now plum in the fridge and pop the sink back in and finish that off tomorrow and that will just leave me the shower/toilet to finish off.

the biggest job will be the outside ,i saw in a book that engine cleaner by auto glymm is good for getting the black stains off the outside so i am going to try that soon but resealing is the most important thing on the list to do first .

thanks for all the help with the fridge,i did phone a caravan specialist and was told that i should be prepaired to pay out at least £150 on a half decent fridge !!

i am wondering if the campervan isnt starting to become a "money pit"

thanks for the help

This is confusing !!

the fridge i have is a 240 volt/gas, it has an ignitor for lighting the gas at the front that you push in and it clicks and there is a spark !! yipee !

I took the fridge home to test with the 240 volt side and pluged it in ,brill it all worked BUT the thing that worried me is there is no thermal cut out on the 240 volt ,it just gets hotter and hotter ,im sure there is suppose to be some kind of cut out .

i am getting so fed up of the fridge situ that i am thinking of forgetting about it and leaving it out ,

also is it possible to convert it to 12 volt ?

thanks

maybe you should have got a three way fridge if you wanted 12v as well, not too up on fridges as not actually used mine yet (long story) I assumed they worked the same as your fridge at home. As mine in enclosed at the back I have an outlet pipe to the outside of the van which I assumed was to either move away nasty gases or cool it down.  Maybe we should all forget about them lol

At last i have discovered that the 240 v /gas fridge is infact a 12v /gas and the idiot that sold it to me stuck a 240v element into it without putting the thermal cutout onto it so it would of got hotter and hotter !

dont think i will be buying anything from him again !
