The van is nearly here! Now we're looking at what awning to buy, but they all seem huge! The Kyham is our favourite but works out about 3m by 3m plus 1m for the tunnel. Along with a 2m wide van, we will surely be spilling over any pitch size!

Has anybody had any problems with overspilling the pitch with this size of awning, or being turned away from a campsite for being too big?

I wouldn't have thought that you'd have a problem.  It's probably best to check out pitch sizes when you book.

If you look at the size of an average family tent these days, you'll notice that many of them are larger than your van and prospective awning added together.  There are often threads on here on 'tent talk' about pitch sizes.

The C&CC handbook says their pitch size is 11m squared which includes the 6m between units. So effective pitch size is 5m x 5m.

The CC website and their handbook says their pitch size is usually 12m wide with a 6m gap between sides of units, and a 3m gap all round which would have to exclude your car (if using car and caravan). This should mean a 6m wide pitch.

I think I might have to phone their respective call centres and ask if they are aware of problems with large awnings on motorhomes.

I've looked at the threads about tent pitch size, and the v. large tents have had difficulties. But most of those were 7 or even 8m!
