We have a fifteen year old Hymer. We have researched this subject and the only option is to join the Caravan and Camping Club and then join the RAC. They offer european recovery to members of the C&CC with no restriction on the age of vehicle. It is a special arrangement between the two organisations and you cannot get cover any other way. We haven't used it ourselves but have heard that it is excellent.

Our Hymer has just come back from a drive from uk to south of spain and back with not a hint of trouble - bless her!

They may not have an age restriction but they do, I think, have a length restriction i.e not over 18ft.

They are cheaper than RAC so please correct me if I am wrong!

Hi awhg,

I am with Safeguard Insurance of Leeds, and breakdown assistance is included in the premium for both UK and Europe for 12 months. I don't know of any restrictions for age or length but give them a call on 0113 258 1614, nothing to lose. The breakdown cover is via the AA . In France you have to pay to be removed off the motorway, then you can call for assistance via the insurance cover. Hope this helps.

 i got mine at the great western motorhome show last year. a company called shield 55 quid, also ive tried more than and they have quoted me 80 quid, hope this helps
