Hi,
We've got a Type 2 VW campervan with a solid roof which we're thinking about converting into a pop-top. I've managed to get hold of a Devon roof (from a van being scrapped - the whole roof has just been cut off in one piece so all the parts are there), but can't find a garage locally who would be willing to take the job on (we live in Bristol).

Does anyone know how difficult this is? Is it something we could attempt ourselves or is that a very bad idea for an amateur?! Any recommendations on things to be aware of? Failing that, does anyone know a reliable garage who might be willing to take this on.

Thanks!
Mark

I'm sure If you look thru magazines like Volksworld you would find a VW restorer who could do the job--but think carefully before you hack a hole in the roof-if its a 70s van---youve got yourself a classic vehicle--it could be a bad idea--in the long term--tin tops(ie standard roof)is what they all want--

Mark ! have a look for the book 'How to convert your Bus or Van to a camper written by 'Lindsay Porter, it's a fantastic book and it can be bought from www.justkampers.co.uk  it's a great book just to put on your shelf and keep looking through it  , costs new about £25 or secondhand off 'fleabay' about 12 to 15 squid

Hi guys,
That's all really helpful, thank-you! I still have slight reservations about going through with it but if we do then I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks again,
Mark
PS. Sorry for the slight delay in responding.
