Please can anybody help. I have a Swift Sundance with a Carver water heater. The system was emptied by the previous owner. I ahve filled the fresh water tank but have 2 problems,

1) I can't seem to pirme the system as the pump runs continuously when switched on. There is water coming out of the taps as expected.

but also

2) water constantly pours out of the Water heater. I thought it was the w/heater drain plug but this is done up. (The water seems to be coming out of the vent). I would assume that if the heater was full, then the flow to it would cut off.

Any advice on how to prime the system and to stop the water heater 'overflowing' would be much appreciated.

thanks for looking

I had a similar experience with a Carver 2 it apears the manufacturers knew of a fault with the plastic elbows the pipework connect to, they become brittle and split, this flooded my van. They never recalled the product.

Is the black O ring on the drain plug these should be renewed every coupple of years they are cheap and most caravan assy shops stock them.

The only way is really to take the heater out sliding it out the side of the van its not a hard job, if it wasnt drained it could have frozen and split, i hope it hasnt there not cheap.

Pete

Hi, this may sound like quoting the obvious but you have closed the vent screw at the top of the heater. The prevoius owner will have opened this to enable quicker drain down. For highly accurate repair information and spares for this this type of heater contact Gary at Arc Sytems in Nottingham.

I have a Kontiki with the same water system and the method I use is to ensure all taps are closed, fill the fresh water tank to half then switch on the pump. This should then run to fill the hot water tank (carver heater) and all the pipe work. Once the pump stops open cold taps individually to allow air to be expelled and close when water flows at a constant rate. Follow a similar pattern with the hot water which usually takes a little longer to expel all the air and all should be well. the drain down bung needs to be fairly tight and ensure the rubber O ring which acts as a seal is not damaged or incorrectly fitted. Good Luck
