Hi all, I'm new here and new to this motorhome lark!!
Me and my best mate will be travelling around Europe in the summer for hopefully 4 months. We are definatly getting a transit van convert (best mates a ford obsessor and is buying the van so can't be persueded).
Is there anywhere you can recommend for insurance? We have only managed to get 1 quote so far and that was only for petrol they wouldn't give us insurance on the 2.5 diesel (which is less powerful, go figure :S )We also want more than 90 days european insurance if thats possible?
What are you telling the insurance co?---if you told them it is a Transit with a home made camper convertion it will be hard to insure--you would be better just trying to insure as a commercial van--
is that going to be technically legal? will it not invalidate the insurance if I've not been honest about it? I would probably do it, but my mates a bit "anal" about these sort of things! LOL
Welcome to the forum Dunk ! and good luck with the insurance M8, when my son was 21 he wanted to get a 2litre T25 like mine, it's a good job he didn't buy it first , as no one would touch him, accept for two company's , cheapest quote for him was £2,300 third party !!!!!!!!!!! he is now 22 living in Orlando U.S.of A. and driving a 1989 Ford Crown Victoria 4.2 V8 insurance £ 236 our money !

You tried your best
and failed MISERABLY.
The lesson is : NEVER TRY .
The quote from Adrian Flux wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, it was only £430ish I think with 2 21 year old lads on it, just it was petrol, we want diesel for obvious reasons.
we went with Adrian Flux - u have to send pics in to show its a camper i.e. a bed, a cupboard that u can use for a wardrobe and on board water thats their definition of a camper!!!!!!! keep trying im sure someone will insure u afterall they always want ur money! theres some great links on here im sure ull get there eventually - oh yeah and welcome to the site and good luck with ur travels
I was told by an insurance company Comfort insurance I think, that for a van to be classed as a camper it needs to fulfill the requirements of having a bed, a wardrobe and onboard water, it also appears cheaper to insure a van as a camper rather than a commercial vechicle. Obviously your age may affect it, I am insured with Adrian Flux and I have a T25 Diesel, but then Im not 21 .
Well, I've been told by several companies that they don't do custom vans, the only one I can get is from Adrian Flux. They really don't want young people to drive motor homes.
--theres always a problem insuring campervans for young people--its the pop festival-dope smokin-hippyvan thing-your best bet may be to not actually convert it-ie insure as a van & put mattresses in the back along with portable cooker & fridge etc--
