Although we've had our motor home for two weeks and have stayed out in it once, we havent yet used the water system. Going away this weekend and planning on having a go! After reading the Handbook it suggests that we sanitise the water system with something like Milton before we use it - is that the norm? Certainly don't want an upset tummy but equally don't want to be too fussy either.
I think its the norm same as if your water system was not being used for a long time you would need to sanitise it again - like over winter or something, Ive got a new system so will need to do mine it just makes it nice and clean just incase there are any bugs lurking. Best to be safe but give it a good flushing out milton flavoured tea - ewwwwwwwww lol
hi bats- Be very careful of useing Milton as it is very corrosive on metal ie stainless steel heater tanks, if you do use it dilute it a lot and make sure you then give a real flushing out with clean water. cheers Kiev
I wouldn't bother sanitising it evry time you use it but I would certainly recommend doing it more than once a year. I tend to do mine about once evey 3 months or so.I would also recommend that you DONT use Milton. As was said earlier in this thread it can do terrible things with metal, I saw a photo of a couples motorhome in the MMM magazine about a year ago. they had a bottle leak into the stainless stell sink while it was stored and it ate clean through it
------------- take it 1 day at a time.... anything else is just greedy
I got so fedup keeping up with our outside underfloor clean and waste tanks, that i decided to remove them both, and it's made my life so much easier, and the camper 'lighter' ! just use a plastic container now, like i have done for 30 odd years of camping we only use the sink in the camper, if we don't have the Drive away awning on,
