Probably airing an old theme here but I would appreciate your comments on who you would recommend, (or even avoid, remember no libel) both financially and service wise for motorhome insurance. Discounts for: - on-line quotes, security storage, Thatcham 1 security, club(s) membership, additional vehicle insurance, free legal cover, recovery, no claims discount bonus.
There was a huge article in MotorCaravan magazine recently. However for the 4th year running I have Safeguard looking after me. You do need to check that they have taken commuting off (if this is no use to you), the CC and other club earn you a discount too. Safeguard were very good when we put the van onto a cherished number then equally good when taking it off at part ex time. You also get breakdown cover included.
Last year the Caravan Club were a close second but this year it was an extra £400 with MotorcaravanWise second.
We initially got a recommendation from the dealer and i think he got £20 for this.
We've got ours with Adrian Flux with the discount for being members here. I guess the insurance on a big m/h may be different to what we needed for our T3.
Hi Don- although I have not made any claims on motorcaravan insurance for many years [ just lucky I guess ] I have found for a really good deal The Motorcaravan Insurance Agency takes some beating, I always check others each year it is due to compare, and very often laugh out load at some of the so called competative quotes. Kiev
try norwich union direct "quote me happy",i tried several companies and found these were the cheapest and gave some good benefits included in the policy.
Saga -for everything - house car, motorhome and dog! My 1st van broke down and their get you home service was fantastic. They even took it to a garage of my choice the following day. We were pleased with their price too but I think you have to be over 55yrs. I prefer a reliable firm and cheapest isn't always best.
Thank you everyone who posted and I'm grateful for your opinions. I'm still more than seven weeks away from renewal and companies quotes are normally only valid for one month. I thought it would be better to enquire from the members now to get a feedback of views. I'm still watching for any other members who might post.
Ive had the CIS insurance (coop) they have been very competative and they dealt with my claim when low life stole the vehicle last year giving me a very good settlement well above market value.
They deal direct now but used to use brokers in order to keep costs down, an insurance company is only as good when you have to claim.
Advice to all take pictures of all the extra`s fitted it helped me.
Got a quote from Comfort-minimum for American RV-£1000
Went back to Safeguard £799 (full NCB) for 6.8 litre engine, value £65.000. Self and two named drivers, breakdown, European cover. Anyone got anything better?
We insured with Caavan Club for years,The rates kept creeping up ,but we had problems because of a home conversion. CIS insured it no problem, cutting the bill by half the first year we went with them.
Just an update on my progress. I have contacted several companies for quotes even though they are only valid for one month. I was advised to stay with the CC/Devitt as my premium cannot be beaten by any of them. My current fully comprehensive cover expires 28th May and has European travel etc, which I paid £192.00 last year. I'll be interested to see what my renewal premium will be. Watch this space!!

Fully comprehensive with breakdown (UK and Europe) - £299 if you live in NI (€330 if in ROI) and your engine was only 6.0 litre.
