we have an autotrail cheyenne on a fiat ducatto base which is a 2.8 jtd, we are having problems with the injector light coming on intermittently when travelling but not on every journey, also when changing gear the engine continues to rev even when your foot has been removed from the pedal, again this isn't all the time.

has anyone experienced any similar problems and any ideas on the cause would be great

thanks fatbrickie

Hi, what year is your Fiat? Problems have been known with the gate valve sticking on the turbo but this usually causes power loss rather than uncontrollable revs. Is yours a cable driven accelerator or a fly by wire system and is there any extra like cruise control fitted as any could give this problem.

Hi,

This may not be the same as your fault but it is similar,

I have just sold my w reg(2000)ducato 2.8,last year we were all loaded for our 3 weeks in france,we got 2 miles down the road as I pulled away from a set of lights the revs shot right up like the pedal was jammed to the floor.Turned off the ignition but it did not stop in the end I stalled it luckily I was only doing 10-15 mph.Clutch smelt pretty cooked though.Anyway I was told fault was in the injector pump probably a seal had given up so engine was running on engine oil,the govenor disintergrated and had I not stalled it then engine would have revved to bits!!.Repair bill was£1650 to include recon pump, recon injectors, filters, cleaning pipes, timing belt and tensioner(stipped belt stalling it,but not enough for valves to hit pistons,HUGE BILL).I don"t recall any lights showing but was a bit busy at the time!!!.

Hope this maybe of some use

Steve

Hi,

The work was all done by a Fiat garage in Basingstoke,I know they sent the pump and injectors to be reconditioned but I don"t know where. This was quite a bit cheaper than a new fiat part.

I had a diesel that just started for no reason to rev all on its own and the fault was the Turbo, As its been said diesels start to eat their own engine oil  then seize and explode cost for repair over £1000 new turbo fitted. Its fine now.

You need to take it to someone who knows and get it checked out it could be the ECU fuel delivery. But unless they have come up against this problem which they probably have. You could spend/ waste money on components that are ok.
