Hi There. We have just had to sell our beloved caravan and have down graded to a really old, 1984, ford transit camper van. .Could anyone please recommend an insurance company? It is a 1993 cc and diesel engine. Cant seem to get any sensible quotes. Thanks in advance. regards,
Thaks everyone for your replies. Went to pick up our "new, but really old" campervan and it looked alot better than I was expecting. Not as much rust as I anticipated. What was a shock though was that instead of being "mechanically sound" and "runs brilliantly, no work required" it was missing one or two small components, i.e. brakes, gears and clutch. Lesson learnt. Dont buy anything without seeing it first. OOOPS. Ebay has its uses but I dont think that this was one of them. Bloke refunded my money and was quite apologetic. Hmm, could have died if I have turned onto the South Circular! Hey never mind, lesson learnt. Off to see another one today (!) SO thanks for the the replies, Insurane company names have been noted and hopefully I will get something soon as I am going stir crazy now.
Good luck in finding a campervan Niki & Simon. We're about to start a conversion on a van, and have found that very few insurers will insure while we're actually doing the conversion. So far, Adrian Flux is the only one, it's quite expensive, but should come down in price next year once the conversion is done. Will try ringing the people listed above though aswell - you can never have too many insurance quotes!
Hi nikiandsimon, try Lynbrook insurance as they do classic insurance Tel 0845 130 4662. Your camper must be a mk2 transit campervan have a look in my gallery sand see if it's the same as mine. Lynbrook charged me £161 fully comp for me and the missus which includes uk and european breakdown recovery. That was for a 5,000 policy but the 8,000 policy was only £180 much cheaper than adrian flux.
Are you sure you transit is a diesel as the 1993cc sounds more like a 2ltr ohc pinto petrol engine, unless someone has converted it to a diesel. Check your V5 to make sure. There are 2 types of diesel engines that will fit the mk2 transit a 2.4 york diesel and the later and much better 2.5Di
