Sorry tentpeg I do not agree at all we would definitely not be better off with a caravan and at the end of the day this is our choice and it suits us perfectly thank you . We love having the motorhome, we love the total freedom of it and the fact that if we want to wild camp then we can.  Everything is onboard, water tank, waste tank etc and if we are touring around (which we love to do) and suddenly out of the blue come across some beautiful, idyllic location we can just find somewhere to park up and that's it we can stay there for the night. We don't need to hook up to electric, we don't need a water supply, as it is all ready stored on board and we can just do what we want, when we want ..... ooh total bliss!  We don't then have to return miles back to a campsite to hook the caravan up, travel back and then search for a suitable campsite in the area which is probably just a field with no particular views of any significance! We have total freedom to make impulisve decisions as to where we stay the night and we just love that. This is not so easy with a car and caravan and for us not being able to enjoy such freedom would be very restricting.

We have wild camped in some fantastic places and enjoyed some spectacular views and locations. locations that no campsite could ever equal. We dont wild camp to save money it is because we just love some of the idylic settings we have discovered and to me this is the true beauty of owning a motorhome.  Don't get me wrong I have nothing against caravans at all and my best friend has a fanbulous one and it is really lovely.  She and I often meet up together and spend a few days away together with our husbands enjoying the outdoor life.  But our personal preference is a motorhome as it suits me and my husbands attitude to life better and I would never dream of critisising another persons freedom of choice. Each to their own I say and whatever someone prefers is no business of mine. I am very happy with my choice and see no reason to critisise other people's choices and I respect that what suits one person may not suit another. Wouldn't do for us all to think the same would it and what a boring uninteresting world that would be for us all?

Now as for towing a car  with a motorhome ..........  this does restrict you somewhat and is why we do not tow it every place we go as this would then mean we were not as free to come and go as we choose. But when we know we are visiting places where getting around in a largish vehicle may not be possible, or if we know we are staying stationary for a few days and we just want to park up and chill out then having our smart car is then a real bonus for us and enables us to arrive at the campsite, wind out the awning, get out the chairs and tables, set up the barby and away you go! It is on ocassions like this that having the use of our little car to get around in is a real asset and we can then just nip off as the mood takes us.  Towing a car gives us an extra option and just adds even more joy to motorhoming for us. Whereas, when we know we are going to constantly be on the move, touring around and we want total freedom - then we ,simply eave the car behind at home and just carry our bikes! We love having this choice and we love having the Smart car and my husband drives it everyday. We do have another car which I drive and we are quite happy with our set up. So far from being madness tentpeg it suits us perfectly!  It is our choice, our money and our preference and we just love it!

Oh Redtuts I am so sorry. It makes me so angry when this happens as it happened to my sweet sister in law just a few weeks after my dear brother passed away. Same thing exactly and it really, really knocked her back and she was really upset and she rang me in floods of tears. I had to ring them up and tear them off a strip and although they were very apologetic it was too late and the damage was done. Why aren't they more careful with their records??? Surely someone realises the anguish mistakes like this can cause to loved ones? Bang out of order in my book!!!

Yeah I fancy all those places you mention Redtuts and would love to visit them all. I think we ought to retire early dont you?

Excuse me for going slightly off topic here. Talk amongst yourselves folks. What made it worse Sonesta was that OH was misdiagnosed at the hospital as having taken an overdose. Even though me and OH insisted that wasn't the case the docs wouldn't have it. He had a blockage in his bowel which they finally sussed too late.  The letter I received was from the drug and alcohol drop in centre asking why he hadn't attended. They'd referred him from the initial diagnosis.

This is madness..... forgive me! Think about it..... I would have thought if you needed to tow a car  you would be better off with a caravan!! and your normal everyday car...

I agree regarding your post Sonesta. I have absolutely no desire to mess about putting a tent up and prefer to drive a motorhome rather than tow a caravan. I like to pull up when the mood takes me and I can have the kettle on within 60 seconds.

That's just me though, if other people get pleasure out of enjoying camping and travelling another way good luck to them. It'd be a funny old world if we were all the same.

Yes of course it is your choice and if you enjoy it good luck to you.....clearly you have thought about it.  I can see motorhomes are great for touring particulary for older folk or people travelling around Europe or grabbing a quick weekend away.

But sorry the idea of towing a car...... the insurance on three vehicles (motorhome, family car, and holiday car), the depreciation, the ... just seems completely bonkers to me.

But then it would be a boring world if we all were the same... so happy touring

Older folk???  I don't think I'm entitled to a bus pass for a good few years yet. I did all the gadding about with a tent on the back of a bike malarky when I was in my teens and early twenties.

Depreciation doesn't have to be that much unless you buy everything brand new. Personally I'd never buy a new vehicle, for that very reason. I'd rather buy something a couple of years old and let someone else take the drop in value. But if others want to spend their hard earned cash that way and they're happy with it.

Blimey... trouble with message boards things can be misinterpretted..... I am unitentionally stirring a hornets nest it appears here.  Look plenty of things I do are probably considered bonkers.....  Can we electronically shake hands.  I am sorry if I have caused any offence it really is not intended.... honest.... Think motorhomes are great....

I have just noticed increasingly that people who can no longer manage camping often find motorhomes a good choice.. that is all.  Also noticed that people who like touring from place to place like them.. nothing more than that.. just acknowledgeing the usefulness of something that does not need much work on the campsite... to particular groups of people.

Each to their own tentpegjenny but I suppose when you chose to put yourself forward like you did and decided to describe the behaviour of people who choose to tow cars as madness - then you must expect those you have voiced them against to reply as they see fit!

As for the cost - that is also an individuals choice and if I can afford  2, 3 or 4 cars then that is my business. I work darned hard, run a successful business and I am not asking you or anybody else for that matter to foot my bills? Such comments are bound to get any hard working persons hackles up and nobody should have to justify to you why they choose to spend their money in a certain way. Bonkers indeed! How very rude!   You are a little cheeky to describe those that do as bonkers and in my opinion there is nothing you said that can be misinterpreted - you made it quite clear exactly what you meant.

I will shake your hand electronically as I see no point in carrying on this discussion any further but I hope you will stop and think in the future before making such self opinionated comments and remind yourself that what others do or how they spend their money is up to them.

You are happy with your tent and I am sure you have loads of fun in it and likewise we are happy with our motorhome, towed smart car and all.

By the way I've never been camping, so its not a question of no longer being able to manage it - it really hasn't ever appealed to me!  As a hippy teenager I seem to recall stopping in a tent once at a pop festival but I was much too drunk on life and cheap alchohol then to remember much about it!

Regarding the motorhome and towing, we have a small campervan but with toilet and shower totally self sufficient but can understand the tow car need for some people.

Regarding the NHS and appointments being sent out.  I have worked for the NHS for over 5 years and this is my greatest fear, however if no-one informs the hospital about a death this may occur.  GPs do not routinely inform hospitals about patients deaths.  If a relative rings the hospital this can be totally avoided.  Personally if I hear a rumour that one of our patients has died I will investigate by ringing the GP/Hospice etc.  I also have had  a "deceased patient" turn up for an appointments but they and their relatives would never know this.

Please don't blame all NHS employees for appointment letters.  If one of your relatives have died perhaps a phone call would avoid this.

A lot of NHS employees really care for their patients.

Yes I agree the NHS employees do a remarkeable job Jana and a job that sadly a lot of people take for granted and often don't appreciate - but regretfully mistakes and errors do happen and when they do the victims are usually the most vunerable.

To be honest, my sister in law was in no fit state to think about such things as ringiing around the NHS and neither were any of the family, we were all absolutely grief stricken at losing such a wonderful and amazing person as my darling brother. He was 48 years old, a happily married man with 3 adoreable children and his sudden and unexpected death on Christmas Eve knocked us all off our feet! I tried to be strong to help his family and what with trying to get through Christmas and the funeral and everything else,  the last thing on any of our minds was whether a hospital appointment would be sent out in error a few weeks later! It was not top of our list of priorities to be honest with you Jana.

I am certainly not blaming anyone in particular and I know the NHS employees are kind and caring people but I do think a system should be set up that prevents mistakes happening like this to the grieving relatives. My sister in law was devestated when she got the letter complaining that her husband had failed to keep his appointment and I know it knocked her for six!

Regarding the NHS and appointments being sent out.  I have worked for the NHS for over 5 years and this is my greatest fear, however if no-one informs the hospital about a death this may occur.

Maybe a dead body might have given them a clue!  He died at the hospital. They later referred him to the local drug and alcohol drop in clinic, even though the doctors couldn't tell the difference between a bowel blockage and an overdose despite us assuring them he hadn't taken anything.

I think I ought to go to bed before I launch into a Monty Python sketch.

Sonesta I really do apologise for having 'touched a nerve', I do not set out on these message boards to cause trouble.  I am sure your work hard as many of us do and of course as I intimated I think in my post 'each to there own.

There is a saying ' when you are in a hole stop digging'  so I will cease.  Have fun.

Fair enough tentpegjenny apology accepted so let's call a truce? I accept you have now stopped digging your own hole (That comment made me smile lol) and I am sure you didn't set out deliberately to cause trouble, but your comments like I said in my last post to you, did warrant a reply.

Yes I do work hard, as do lots of people and how we all choose to spend what we earn is, as you have quite rightly said "each to their own" You didn't really "touch a nerve" tentpegjenny, more like "ruffled my feathers" but like I say, I accept you did not deliberately set out to annoy anyone.

Ok .......... you can now stop digging and can fill that hole in lol and I in return hope you too have lots of fun.

Thanks for the apology.

All the best
