We are looking to buy a motor home its for two of us & our dog.  We intend to do day trips & long weekends so want to be able to park + get around the narrow country lanes if poss (Cornwall)

We are looking at the Symbol / Duetto they are both really nice & I think we could get around fairly easily, but I keep going back to looking at the Auto-sleeper Nuevo ES.  I think it looks great & has that little bit extra space in side.   It is about 6 inches longer & 3 inches wider than the Symbol, however when looking at them both together from the outside the Nuevo does look so much bigger & we are affraid we will have problems getting around the narrow lane/streets & parking.

Sorry to go on a bit but does anyone have the Symbol or Nuevo ES and if so how do you get on with them.  Any comments regarding either would be appreciated

Thank you

I would advise a good test drive in both if possible, although i think symbol/nuevo use the same base vehicle, puegeot. Duetto is a ford. we have a harmony which is similar to a symbol, and is fine for 2. I don't drive it due to the long reach to the clutch, but have driven panel vans before and you very quickly get used to them.

The decision will very much depend on what you plan on doing, mostly weekends and a few longer trips, or 3 months touring europe?

We've done many weekends and just come back from 2 weeks in the outer hebrides where we wildcamped with no problem in the harmony. prior to this we had a tiny rascal van which we used for long day trips and weekends.

One consideration I would suggest would be bed configuration, we utilise the front seats as part of the bed, which does mean a bit of moving things around, I think it's the same in the symbol. this doesn't bother us as we like to camp with a few facilities rather than drive our living room round the country, but may be something you'd brefare to avoid. Also check sizea and comfort of beds, ours make 2 singles which are a bit on the narrow side, but avoid having to climb over one another to use the loo in the night.

Also I think the symphony is very like the symbol but a bit longer but not wider. So may be worth looking into.

Hope I haven't confused you even more

jules

thanks for your reply Jules it sounds like you get on really well with your Symphony. Your information is very helpful.  Hopefully someone might reply who has got the Nuevo as I am interested how they get on with the country lanes

Thanks again

HI Dish

A Duetto owner here.  We had the old style beige one and replaced it with the new one last year.  As we are shortish (5'6" ish) we can sleep across the van and leave the infills at home.

The Nuevo is a lovely van and moneywise probably makes more sense but we have a tight space we thought it would be a bit big.  But as  Jules mentioned go to a  dealer and have a test drive of each one.  Spend time putting the beds up etc.  Any good dealer won't have a problem with this at all and shouldn't pressure you at all.  Can point you at dealers in various parts of the country who are good to visit and ones to avoid perhaps.

We have met couples who are dog owners in Symbol/Duetto's so it really comes down to preference and which you like the look of.  We had it pointed out that in a coachbuilt most of your money is taken up by the conversion but in a van conversion it is the base vehicle.

Good luck

I

I've got a Talisman coachbuilt which is bigger than than either of them and I've been down enough tight country lanes. (Just make sure you don't meet the bin lorry coming the other way, they don't shift over for anyone!!)

Never had a problem with parking either, apart from height barriers.  Go with whichever one suits you best.

Hi Sparkydish, We have just bought a autosleeper gatcombe 2005.I was looking at buying a symbol or executive. We were shown a nuevo which we liked very much, and we couldnot make our minds up,our son phoned us and told us where there was this auto sleeper gatcombe for sale.We went to have a look and fell in love with it.We have had three weekends so far in it,our dog loves it to,she knows the night before that we will be going away, she gets very exited like a child. For the extra room I would go for the Neuvo over the symbol. Also our gatcombe looked massive against the symbol, but having owned it a month I'm quite used to it and I us it as a every day vehicle now. Which ever choice you make I hope you enjoy it like we do.

  John

We used to have a Symphony - same size as Symbol.  We now have a Swift Lifestyle 530 which is bigger than the Nuevo.  We don't find it much different to drive, but the extra space inside is wonderful.
