After 20 odd years of camping in a tent, we've finally decided to buy an old campervan. It's main purpose is as a day van, taking the kids to the beach, and giving us a base to cook in etc. Although the van can sleep 4, when we take it away for a camping trip 2 of us will probably sleep in the van and the other 2 in an awning (I'd still rather sleep in a tent). So, my question is, can anyone give advice on a good awning in the lower end price bracket? I'll be pitching it against the side door of a Talbot Express, will need an inner tent with 2 births, and enough living space for the kids to do do their drawings etc! I've got a preference for a tunnel type design, and not canvas (which I find a bit heavy and bulky to store, and a pain to dry out after a camping trip). I'd also like to be able to easily detach it from the campervan, zip it up, and leave it standing when I drive away. Also, are these types of awning generally charged extra for at sites?

Many thanks.

Hi

We too we have just bought a camper but interested in an awning where the sides open up to give you more fresh air.  I hope someone answers your query so we can learn too.

I have a Kyham Motordome Classic Awning.  3M square.  Room for the kids to play if it's nasty weather.  Nice to sit in in the evening to have a drink.  Sides can all zip down. Erects in one minute.

Also look at the Easy Camp Venice, Sunncamp Cruiser, Sunncamp Moto or Outdoor Revolution Navigator (see shop above). I have the Sunncamp Cruiser and have seated 7 people round 2 tables in the L-shape living area which surrounds the 2-berth inner tent. Actually we did once squeeze 10 people in this area for a meal but squeeze was the right word.

Hi,

Am new to Motorhoming, had Romahome for 3 weeks, bought Outdoor Revolution Movelite.

Excellent awning, went to North Yorkshire last week. Moved sites 3 times awning took 20 mins to put up much less to take down.

Left blocks for rear jacks as guide for resighting van and have said will use chocks in future as easier to line up.

Had quite a few comments from other campers about quickly we set up the outfit and how easy it was to come and go.

Great thing about the Movelite, was that at each site we opened up a different side to give us privacy and the breeze.

We have a just campers awning cost £199 and is massive - we called it a garage for our campervan when we first put it up cost you could get the camper in, it has 2 doors and one of them is the size of one side so is huge. it would easily sleep 3 double airbeds in it!!!!!! ours is a driveaway one which is what we wanted cos wed heard so many bad stories about people driving off for the day and coming back and their pitch was gone!!!!!!!!
