Thank you to everyone for your comments

I'm hoping to be using friends driveways or private land that I pay to rent so hopefully these things wouldn't be an issue

Gettin very excited now as purchase is almost through - am getting a very rare VW Karmann with new engine incredibly funky but also practical !!

Dont see a problem meself. If you go out for the night, have a few drinks then get back to your van to get your head down. Hundreds do it at Blackpool.

Different if yer sat behind the wheel.

Plod are far too busy (and thin on the ground) to go about sniffing under camper van doors to try and find drink drivers. Hell there are enough nutters trying to drive home in their Mondeos and Golfs whilst p*ss*d to keep plod active all day/night.

Simple truth is, yes if you are on public land or the highway you could be bagged if they believed you were in charge and had consumed excess alcohol. So don't take that risk.

If anything happenned that meant you had to move your van because you were on a public road eg if someone hit your van or you had to move for any reason beyond your control then you would be in difficult position if you had had a drink.

I know it is only a slight risk but the consequences are not worth the risk if you can shack up on a friends drive.

Enjoy your van whatever.
