We are looking to buy a motorhome and while looking have seen conversion companies.

I have three questions.

1. Mazda Bongo Conversion. Does anyone have one of these? Where did you buy from? What cost? What do you think of your purchase?

2. My husbands work Ford Transit is to be changed and he can buy it from his employer. Are there any reputable conversion companies for FTs?

3. Is getting insurance on these converted vehicles, and servicing etc difficult or particularly expensive?

Hi, I've just got an unconverted Bongo and went camping last weekend. I would suggest you need to think carefully about what you wat, a Bongo is much smaller than a Transit, if you intend to convert the specifications will end up being quite different. That being said the Bongo is more like a big car than a van and would suit 2 perfectly (we are 4 so will rely on an awning as well).

Have a look at www.bongofury.co.uk for everything Bongo related including loads of information on converters and links to their websites. This is the owners club site and you will find out almost everything you ever wanted to know.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

The website above is brilliant.  They seem to be easily serviced in the UK and parts on the whole are easy to get.  I personally would not buy off of ebay though!  There are lots of duff ones around.  On bongofury you will see links to reputable dealers and you are far better off using them.  There are some horror stories about poor quality ones being bought from non Bongo dealers and privately.

Hi! I bought my bongo last Oct and Iv,e been to france twice this year, drives just like a car, mine is 1997 'P' 2.5 turbo deisel auto,a/c all round, electric blinds, tinted glass, just the job for two + two, I bought an awning, the German made breganz, really well made and fits on the van a treat. liked the van  so much that I am considering moving up to bigger van, I bought the Bongo with mid conversion ie sink/stove and all the epuipment was included ie water & waste containers, electric water pump and mains connection. I'm thinking of selling it private as I don't think you get a good price part ex, if you want to start off you can't do better than a Bongo, I also use mine as my normal transport.

                                            regards   arthur
