We have a Swift Sundance on a Fiat Ducato 2.8 base vehicle & used it for 2 weeks in France with no problems at the end of August. However, now every time we use it the electric fan cuts in but will not switch off again unless we disconnect it.

The engine does not seem to be over hot & the water & oil levels are correct.

Any ideas please, We're desperate to get it sorted.

Hi Garibaldi

The fan switches on these have been known to give problems and are a relative simple replacement job. The fan should cut in at 90C and cut out again at 82C. If the vehicle is under 3 years old this should be covered by Fiat warranty if its over a local garage should be a much cheaper option

I've just purchased a new switch from my local motor factors at the grand price of £11.50. If it's easy to fit, it shouldn't be one of those costly nightmare jobs that I worry about, this being my first Fiat.

Hi Garibaldi

Hope it all goes well for you. These Fiats are overall very reliable if serviced as advised. Most problems are minor (horn failure, fan switch failure, blower motor speed control failure, washer pump failure) and are cheap and easy to fix. I would recommend changing the cam belt at five years even if you have not completed the mileage stated as rubber deteriorates with age and a snapped one is devastating to the engine. When changing it buy or have a kit fitted that includes the tensioner which can suffer failure. Another bit to keep an eye on is fluid levels as again boiling an engine like this usually results in major expense. All said this is routine stuff with any engine noy just the Fiat sevel chassis
