Hi David226- I take it you have a 3 way fridge. The 12volt system will only work when the engine is running and will shut off when it stops, if it was not wired like this it would flat the engine battery in a short space of time. It takes a lot of current and is normally wired through a relay, so check that out. Check the thickness of the wire it needs to be thick to carry the load and for any inline fuse which may have blown. Remember the 12volt fridge will only keep a cold fridge cold , it is not up to the job cooling down on it own. Check that you are getting current through to the 12 volt switch, if you are it could then be the element that needs to be replaced. good luck kiev
