We have Finally got our first MH. I have figured most things out,but no leisure battery showing on the Zig (control unit)  I have found the battery, under the drivers seat.

Now I need to know how to remove the battery. Before I totally remove the drivers seat, if it is a seat removal do  you take it fromthe top of the base TORQ screws or remove base+seat from van floor.

Any tips on getting the fridge to work Gas, Red switch Green switch

Thanks in advance

hi' rouge camper, not sure but have you driven your camper it usuly charges the leisure battrey up, also what do you mean it is not showing on the zig unit, is it the rocker switch type, one way a green light shows the other red.  the gas switch will be red & green for 12volt, it can take awile to get the fridge going.  is there no way of testing the battery without dismantling the seat.

Hi Rogue Camper

As a fellow Swift owner I am happy to help you the best I can. To acess the leisure battery (which on my Kontiki is under the passenger seat) first remove the 2 Torx (size 40) then slide the seat forward and remove the 2 similar Torx screws at the back. I would suggest you get someone to help lift and manovere the seat out the door as it is quite heavy and cumbersome.

With regards to the fridge:-

With the red switch in the on position (pushed in at the top) the fridge should operate when the vehicle engine is running. It will draw current direct fom the vehicle battery and is not thermostactically controled.

Green switch in the on position and the fridge will operate on mains and is thermostatically controled by the adjustment control adjacent to the red and green switches.

To operate on gas first turn on the orange switch (a ticking noise should now be heard from the igniter)  then switch on the gas to the fridge using the rotary control next to the orange switch and at the same time keep the switch pushed in. When the ticking stops continues to hold the gas valve knob in for a further 15 seconds, when releasing the gas knob the orange switch should be left on but should not be iluminated. The fridge is now lit and is thermostatically controled by the control adjacent to the gas valve. If the orange switch starts to flash again and a ticking noise is heard restart the lighting procedure. When on gas the flame should be seen through the inspection hole on the back wall of the fridge at the bottom.

These are instructions for fridges fitted around 1997- 2002

If you need help with the zig unit please let me know

Regards

John

4 years ago we removed the seat of our Swift as suggested to change the battery for a larger size.

The existing battery, factory fitted, had a plastic vent pipe which was crushed under the battery before disappearing through a hole in the floor.

Totally useless for the purpose. Worth checking if you want a working vent pipe.

Hi Gillian

Sorry to here of your problem with the battery. With the vent pipe not being fitted correctly there is no escape for the fumes to the outside and this can potentially lead to a build up of inflamable gasses.
What is realy worrying is that the supplying dealer (during the pdi) and subsequent habitation service agents failed to spot this posibibly dangerous situation.

Regards

John

Hi Rogue Camper

Payload is a difficult one to answer. The only true way to do this is when your vehicle is loaded ready for going away with clothes/food/full fuel/usual ammount of fresh water you carry/ chocks/cables etc and thentrundle to the nearest public wiegh bridge. Deducting the actual axle weights from the maximun gross weight will give you the pay load still available. Then of course you have to add the wieght of the box and its contents. Depending on the overhang of your vehicle from the rear axle the loading placed on the rear will vary. All pretty straight forward and as clear as mud pie.

Good Luck on this one and with the battery, let me know how you get on

John

Hello Ya Rogue

Being a swift owner and a swift worker the number you require is called the MH Number which is usually etched on one of the coachbuilt windows usually the nearside front most depending on model.

This number will tell swift all they need to know to give you all the info that you require hope this helps.

Regards Brian.

YoBo

I have just donea quickcheck of the windows no sign of any engraving.

It would not surprise me if the complete MH was made from 2 seperates / accident repair. Cab Chassis+ Living quarters

We have just had our first weekend away in her and as luck would have it there was another Swift Lyfestyle 500 on the site and she was Identical to ours bar engine size(theirs was 2.3 I'm 2.8). They did have a swift plate on the drivers wheel arch with an MH0151 3000Kg engraved upon it. I take the 3000Kg to be max gross weight all I can go on is the 3200Kg on the fiat chassis plate.
