--you will have to be a bit more specific--what year of VW camper are you talking about & what conversion?--many campers already have heating fitted-gas or diesel--as for leasure battery-obviously the best one to use is the deep discharge type--but these will not fit under the seat of a T25 camper so you use a normal car battery or locate it elsewhere

Hi, nellie

If you are one of the more basic vdubbers like me, and do not have an astronomically expensive purpose built camper, most of us drive older aircooled vans!! Sooo

* Make sure your heat exchangers are in good nick and work, this will keep you moderately warm while on the go.

* Buy a nice little self contained gas heater, this will keep you warm while at rest and you can cringe round it in the awning with a nice bottle of red. We have a little Sungas one that runs on the little disposable bottles, it cost £20 with 4 bottles from our local camping shop, (they are on ebay).

* We have a 1981 T25 and have put our auxilliary battery under the passenger seat, there is loads of room in the engine bay though, don't believe it makes much odds, it's just about making the most of available space.

I just think VW's are a very personal thing, so just do what feels right to you

Another dubber here

We currently have:
'70 Beetle
'71 Type 2 Pickup
'84 T25 camper

When driving the heater in the T25 is awesome...too hot if anything.  Tend to have to turn it down and open the window.

For heating when winter camping...if plugged in on a campsite we have a fan heater.
When not able to plug into 240v we have a small gas heater (and crack a window slightly open for ventialtion).  Both heaters heat up the area very quickly, and the bus stays very warm.

My leisure battery is under my bench seat, and the 12v distribution panel is in a cubboard panel directly above it.
