Hi all,
I have just bought a 1990 Burstner 570 and have found all the manuals in german (hand written!) So I may be asking quite a few questions for help, sorry guys...and gals.
Since I am a complete newbie I will start with this, GAS, I was told the heating, hob, fridge and water run off LPG but I might need an adapter for the bottles. This confused me so I went to a friend on a local campsite and he said it depends on the pressure on the connecter, 36bar propane, 28bar butane (i think) but when he saw mine it said 16bar. This issue is under investigation. (any thoughts?)
Oh, I was also told that changing between butane, propane and LPG could damage the jets on the hob???

NEXT: What is the best type/power leisure battery to use? I have one now but was told it was quite old also is there a way to test my ampage from the sockets?

Errr, I think I will stop for now as I have a headache, DOH!
Thanks in advance for any help, I'm sure I will have many more questions very soon.
Cheers,
James

Hi James can't help you with your gas, but may be able to help with your leisure battery question. You are better with the biggest one you can get in e.g.110 amp.I have 85 amp fitted as original, and I have fitted a second 85 amp fitted in series, and a 800watt invertor installed so that we can run 240volt appliances up to 750watts.with this settup we purchased a15inch lcd tv with inbuilt dvd player.which was cheaper than a 12 volt tv. this set up is good if you dont have electric hook up.Hope this of some help.   John.

Cheers John this is helpfull. Can I ask approx' how long would the 2 85amp batts last you before recharge using single appliances? Even a guess would help. At the moment I have an old 85amp batt' and was advised to get another, I am aware that I should not use an old batt and a new one together so I was thinking of a 110amp by itself, hmmm.

Our original 85 amp battery lasted over a weekend fri till sat.I have only recently fitted the second battery and have not been away anywhere more than a weekend, so i would say roughly 4-5 days off twin batteries depending what you use.

John

--gas appliances will run on either propane or butane without problem-but propane is better for winter use-has your van still got the green German gas bottles? if so they are no good in the UK you wont get refills-get a couple of Calor bottles of the size that will fit in your bottle locker & a regulator to go with----propane is best because you can use it in freezing weather----you can only use the correct bottle regulator the wrong one wont fit--Calor propane bottles have a left hand thread--

Cheers Billy, at the moment I don't have any bottles. Any ideas how LPG burns in the cold? I was advised that it used to run off LPG.

I have 1996 Burstner A538. I contacted Burstner Germany and they sent me a very posh instruction book in English FREE!!

I spend most of the sumer in Germany and keep one german gas bottle and one english, it works well, no problem with the appliances when I change over. Got the correct regulators of course.  It will soon sort itself out.

Good luck.

--Liquid Petroleum Gas-ie LPG is both propane & butane---you need to use propane(red bottle) at this time of year because it will work at low temperatures-ie to well below zero-----butane(blue bottle) is slightly more economical but is for summer use only--most people who use their vans in winter & summer use propane at all times----I would suggest you go to a Calor Gas dealer-your local caravan shop is good because they can advise you-get 2 propane bottles to fit your gas locker-a regulator-rubber gas pipe & jubilee clips--plumb the whole lot in-& you are done---its possible tho your van has a fixed regulator but I doubt it--if you dont understand this you will have to pay somebody-ie your local caravan shop to do it for you--

Hi kemikal,I said that I wired my twin batteries in series,I should have said I wired them parallel.Series would have made the system 24volts.
