about the fact that there was a damp reading of between 24 an 45 around a lounge window in our year old Motorhome.

The service centre say they can put a new seal around the window and the work should be covered by warranty. (will be speaking to Autocruise on Monday for authorisation).

Will this be a long term problem or just a leaky seal?

Do they dry out or will it always have a damp problem around that window?

window areas are renowned for being a problem. Due normaly to the way the windows are made. During travel they can become distorted due to wind getting underneath and distorting them. Some have  a different design to prevent this from happening but these are your more expensive types of MH. If your MH is only a year old then you need to take it to your dealer you brought it from to have the remedial work caried out. Hope this helps.

dont worry though, cos if its not sorted by the time the warrenty is up, they still have to get it sorted as its an ongoing issue.

once its sealed it will dry out and be fine, its only when damp goes undetected and/or left it causes problems

Thanks everyone.....panic over!

Phoned the nice people at Autocruise who gave authorisation to the dealer (Richard Baldwins) who are replacing the seal today, excellent service from everyone.

Glad it will dry out and not turn into a big damp issue,I will sleep easy tonight!

Normally it will dry out, especially in cases like the above where the wateringress has been going on for a limited time only.
The interior walls of the van ar emade of plywood covered with wall paper. This will slowly breath the damp inwards, but one has to ventilate the van well. The outside alls of a van are aluminium or polyester. This does not breath, hence slow evaporation via the inside.

But if the process has gone far already and the walls are soaked, normal evaporation may last too long end rot and mould gets a chance. In those cases sometimes fan heaters/ventilators used for drying, sometimes even aided by the drilling of a number of holes on top and bottom to aid the circulation process and let out water. Chance is that in those cases more repair work is necessary as done by people like AlsParker.
In light cases where repairwork has been effected in time natural evaporation should, supported by good ventilation of the van, should do the trick.

Hi Deb,

The service centre told me the damp would dry out,I asked about using a heater to encourage the damp to dry and was told not to bother.

We use our M/H all year so it is heated up on a regular basis so that should help.

I must admit I was considering buying a damp metre to test it myself to make sure it is drying out.

Hope this helps, damp is a worry I certainly did not expect it on a year old Motorhome!

Val
