dear members, could anyone please give me advice on water ingress. My motorhome went through its habitation service and damp was located in the rear of the van it is four and half years old.  The work was carried out under its manufacturer warranty.  This was last summer. 

I have just had it serviced again and it is picking up the damp on the meter in the same places but giving a lower reading last year the reading was 100% now the reading is 25%. I am told that the work carried out was successful and that no water is now getting in but the van just needs to dry out. 

The guarantee for the van runs out in July has anyone else had a problem like this and if so would this be right that some damp would still be being picked up on the meter or should there be no meter reading of damp at all.  I really need to get this matter sorted before the warranty runs out.  PLEASE HELP. thanks Debbie

I have just had our first habitation service carried out (M/H just a year old) and we had a 45% reading around a window which was resealed and I am informed it will dry out.

Like you I am a little worried that this may not be the case and damp may still be lurking in the M/H.

Perhaps if you contact the manufacturer and tell them you are unhappy about still having a damp reading,albeit a lesser one,and lodge your complaint in writing so that it is a registered complaint prior to the warranty runs out.

I don't know how long these thinks take to dry out,I would be interested to know but I would not be fobbed off if your not happy.

If I still have a damp reading in the same place next year I shall expect the Dealer/manufacturer to take further remedial action.

No - get a dehumdifier. All your heaters will do is spread the moisture laiden air around. A Dehumidifier draws damp air in, dries it, drops the water into a tank (don't forget to empty it every day) and puts dry warm air out.

I think if you check with trading standards deb even if the warranty runs out and the problem persists there are laws to protect the consumer and as you have lodge your complaint (make sure you have done this is writing)prior to the warranty expiring you should have some come back.

I know it is a worry and you just want the problem solved but it might be worth calling trading standards to see what their view is and what action you should take to cover yourself when the warranty runs out.

Hi Deb- You must remember that vans have many ventilation vents both in the floor/cupboards and roof vents ect, and all these must be sealed up while a dehumidifier to work correctly, as it will simply draw in damp air from outside and cancel out any real benifits.

Its also recommended that dehumidifiers have to work above a certain temperature, and I would think you need to achieve at least 50degrees with an additional heater to do any good.  Best of luck.   kiev
