Today she told us to turn off the M4 towards Laneli. Very disappointed.

Our satnav's pronunciation of Avenue Des Forces Francaises Libres always raises a smile when we arrive at Roscoff.

When we are in France, I can't be sure whether she can't pronounce french names, or she assumes that we wouldn't recognise them if she did!

You would think that she could pronounce Llanelli. We haven't been abroad for a few years.

We have a Garmin satnav which we used in a previous car without a satnav it gave some amusing versions of French names. The ladies voice is very posh, sounds like Joanna Lumley!
It lives in our Mini now as the Hyundai has one as Standard. It's not too bad on French names.
We hired campervans in Australia, the satnavs had an Australian accent!
It was naturally called Shiela
My wife was born down under so was able to translate!

My son had a satnav commentary from the "A-team". The voice was that of B.T.Barracas saying "Turn left fool" and so on.

It was funny first time but quickly palled

My Satnav overheated in France so I had to buy a new one in a supermarket, the one on special offer excluded the United Kingdom, I almost bought it.

My friend's old Volvo speedometer failed, I suggested he use a satnav as a speedometer and set one up for him.
Being a bad friend I actually set up 2 satnavs in the car to compare speeds and he drove with 2 sets of conflicting instructions. On roads he was familiar with he soon became quite frantic!

We use Google maps directions instead of an actual Sat Nav - it's surprisingly good at Welsh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

OH uses his smartphone rather than the satnav in the car. His man is rubbish at French pronunciation, creates lots of hilarity when we are touring.

The car one calls the A627(M) 'A627 parenthesis M', don't know why.

You should hear our sat nav trying to pronounce the name of our village. Also, where my brother lives is along Lewes road, but the sat nav
insists on calling it “Looo’ s road.

In Pickering there's a road called The Ropery, presumably because they used to make ropes. The old sat nav used to call it The Rop Ury.

Anne Widdicombe on the Jeremy Vine show once called it Loos instead of Lewes. I think they were discussing the fireworks.

You certainly don't need 'foreign' languages for sat navs to mangle them, they can destroy English too!

Two I regularly encounter are Ascots Lane, announced more like A-Scots Lane, and Moxon Street announced as something like Mo-Xon Street, both far enough off common pronunciation and with wrong intonation to throw you if you were relying on it for directions!

Far from unique, countless other manglings I've encountered over the years.

Funnily enough, it's less of an issue with foreign languages, 'cos I can't pronounce them correctly either!

I haven't ever noticed my sat-nav mispronounce anything but then I don't really use it that much. I generally plan my journeys beforehand using an old fashioned map. If I am going to an area I'm not that familiar with, I carry a map book with me. If I use my sat-nav at all it is usually only for the last 3 or 4 miles of a journey. However, sometimes it is not much use there as anything altered since 2013 won't be on it. When I park outside my son's house it shows me as being in the middle of a field!

My wife is a better navigator anyway. She doesn't drive, and she doesn't know her way around anything like as well as I do, but she is a great map reader!

Maybe if Satnavs were to detect which country or region they are in and speak in the (selected) English language but with a local accent getting all local pronounciations correct.
So in Wales you Satnav would speak like Dylan Thomas whilst in France it would become Inspecor Clueso.

My dear MIL has just reminded me of the time when unbeknownst to her I changed the voice on her sat nav.
She nearly had a hairy fit when Bosco Albert Baracus told her to turn left in 50 yards.
