i will remember.... that today it cost me £105:00 for a new battery for our Kia   Sportage!!

Count yourself lucky, when my battery dies it'll cost me around £175, simply because it's a 'special' Stop/Start type! A typical quality 'normal' battery for a engine my size would be around half that price!

You can turn off the stop start function easily enough by disconnecting the charge monitoring lead. Then fit a normal priced battery. Only you would know (or care) Google how to do it.

I can turn off the stop start feature from the dashboard control menu, so no tinkering or Googling required! S and S works so rarely these days due to my infrequent use of the car and consequent almost permanent less than full charge on the battery (it's only operational when battery in very high state of charge and minimal loads on system, and it's a 'smart' alternator, so not always charging battery as much as a 'dumb' alternator would!) that I wouldn't miss it, so an 'ordinary' battery it'd likely be anyway. Battery currently still in tip top condition (checked with a intelligent battery analyser), so I may well have moved the car on before needing a new battery.

I’m still on the original Start/Stop battery (12 reg VW Golf). Can’t complain.
