Received my renewal for C&CC I couldn't believe my eyes when I went on line to renew £58.00 for the year this used be a members run club but it seems to no longer belong to members it's become a business with the price hike I don't think I will be renewing this year even if we do benefit from having age concessions which only apply to the clubs own sites the price of staying on the certificated sites are also rather expensive and only have minimal facilities

Not a member of C&CC, but do belong to the 'other' lot (CAMC), EXACTLY the same sentiments from their members too! Last year or so have been bad.

Think CAMC have taken a little heed of feedback, or maybe lack of bookings, they not only hiked prices but also dropped a lot of discounts, like half price pitches for mid week. They seem to have gone into reverse a bit this year, reducing prices, and doing a number of discount schemes, albeit limited time offers. But at least the rises seem to have halted to some extent.

Sadly the 5 pitch CL privately owned sites are going into overdrive in many cases, their pricing is still rising, and many now exceed the costs of a full camp site nearby! - often without any facilities too!

Camping and caravaning has become the playground for the wealthy it seems, no longer a cheap holiday! You've got to work hard to find reasonably priced sites these days, some do exist, but you can't take it as a given any more!

I left for the same reasons. When I first joined it was the Camping Club of Great Britain and Ireland, solely for tent campers and run by members.
Since then it has become a large holiday company selling insurance and hiring out lodges, statics etc. and run by highly paid executives. Members are now simply customers.

Come on now.... The cost of the annual subscription to either Club is a minor expense compared to the overall cost of our hobby. Prices of everything have gone up since Covid, camping is not excluded. Obviously if you feel the membership fee does not mean good value for you and you don't rejoin.

Four nights on a club site (either club) pays for the year’s membership in reduced fees per night (more noticeable in CAMC than CCC).
If you’re not going to do that, then just don’t join! It’s not a big deal.
In theory, you have to be a member to go to a CL or CS - in practice, few site owners ask (in my experience) & if they do, just join for the year. Or go elsewhere.

2024 = 18 sites / 38 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

We have digital membership, so don't get the monthly magazine, saves £5; we paid £53 at the start of this month. Up from £48 last year. Not a big deal as far as I'm concerned. We're old enough to benefit from their over 60s discount and in addition C&CC do offer some good discounts: earlier this month spent 2 nights at Cambridge site, got an extra 10% off there, and also spent 6 nights at Woodhall Spa, which had an extra 25% discount from Sunday - Thursday, ended up paying about £23.70 per night (worked ot as an overall average per night, as the Friday wasn't discounted, so would have cost more of course) which is quite good value these days IMHO.

I find CAMC much more expensive, currently looking for an overnighter without EHU, on the way back from Newhaven; out of interest checked both their main sites. CAMC's cheapest offering is £29.30, that's without EHU! C&CC is £10 cheaper (for us, with the over 60s discount of course).

Compared to our car insurance, which went up a whopping 70% last November, and house insurance, which has gone up by nearly 50%, the £5 increase pales into insignificance! But of course, it depends on how much, or little, you use their sites, or CLs/CSs. Although as Fiona says, not every CL/CS owner will ask for proof of membership, and if they do, either pay for the year, or find a different site.

Edited post and all the pound signs have gone funny changed them as well, but they still aren't right

Where can a find a CAMC site offering a fully serviced pitch with water connections for under £30 in a popular holiday destination. Granted that it is £28 in low season, but in high season it is £32. The site only has two seasons and also offer an age concession.

100% agree with you David.

We're members of both 'clubs' and although we don't like the price hikes it's a fact of life right now (sadly). We joined both to enjoy specific sites that we like to re-visit because we know they're good. You get what you pay for.
We live in Cornwall and all of the commercial sites down here know how to charge!!

We are C&CC members and don't find their membership fees that excessive. It's not that much more than £1 a week, what else can you get for that? However, I do baulk at some of their site prices. Quite often I find that a nearby commercial site is cheaper, despite our seniors discount.

I have never been on a C&CC site that I didn't think was good, but I have been on some commercial sites that I have thought were even better. Cheaper too. One thing I really don't like about C&CC prices is that they have a mid-season which is often not that much cheaper than peak-season. Most commercial sites have only high and low season, and the times when we go would be called mid-season on a C&CC site, but low season on a commercial one.

We get a 50% discount on CCC annual fees because we've been members for over a certain number if years (can't remember how many - they contacted us about it a few years ago), plus the age concessions too. We still find the Club sites too expensive in high season, but as they say, every little helps.

Many complain about prices. Many do not. I am always suprised that many of the sites I want to visit are fully booked throughout the Summer. Guess that speaks for itself.

A lot of sites are only really fully booked at weekends. Automated booking systems seem to go by the start day, so if you try to book a week starting Friday or Saturday, it will come back "fully booked". Try again starting on the Monday and they have plenty of vacancies. All the weekenders have gone home. This even works if it takes you through the following weekend, which if you had tried to book that would probably have come back "fully booked".

Of course, if its just a weekend you wanted to book, this is no good.

I have actually been on sites where when I turned up on the Monday there was hardly anyone there. The following weekend the place was packed, but by that Monday it was half-empty again.

I am with both clubs, and found savings on nightly non-membership for just one trip is sufficient to cover for the membership fee, for example:

- One trip over Easter for 5 nights in 2025 at C&CC Salisbury club site alone is enough to cover my membership fee for the year.

- Similarly, one trip coming up at one of CAMC's club site in June 2024 for 6 nights is enough to cover my membership fee for the year.

I have been a member with C&CC since 2007, and am going to stay with them as I shall qualify for age concession next year, woo hoo!

I like to stay with CAMC as I like to have the option to use their sites.

When planning for future trips, I would search for C&CC and CAMC club sites in an area of interest first and check their reviews on UKCS to see if they are any good, before I look for independent sites.

I don't use C&CC and CAMC club sites for the trip in August as they are not adult-only, and I would only camp during the summer school holidays at adult-only sites.

For years I avoided camping during the summer school holidays when I was a tenter until I decided to stay at adult-only sites after I got my van in 2021.

However cost of EHU has dropped significantly and inflation has also dropped, but cost of pitches remains the same?
